Hey guys,
I recently installed a new cab-to-filler neck gasket on my 72. I had the gas tank out when I did it, so it wasn't too bad. The new crappy quality rubber has already cracked and failed! I have another rubber gasket, but was wondering if the only way to replace it was to pull the tank again? Is there a way to replace it without having to remove the tank behind the seat? Aftermarket rubber products suck! Anyone out there have any advice?

We have had the same problem on a lot we have sold. I have started offering GM ones also. just a couple of bucks higher.

Vasoline-put a thin flim on both pipe and inside of gasket and also the groove that fits in cab. Worked for me.

That just happened to me as well , i've used these lots of times before , but this is the only one that ripped , and i had the tank out as well .

I'd like to buy the GM one , what's the deal .

its possible but it sucks just take a couple of flat screw drivers and work your way around it if u got a nice paint job dont do like i did and slip and scratch the paint

I just put one in a 71 with fresh paint and the tank in the truck

Not a nice job! I have also gone to just GM, but the 67-70 style from GM appears to be the same repro we have.
Anyway, I used mild liquid soap, diluted with water and pressed it in using wooden paint sticks...no screwdrivers or sharp metal tools. It does NOT like to go in when the tank is installed!

dont use vasoline as it is petrolium based and will harm the rubber use Ky Jelly as it is water based Good luck. And I second no sharp items Jack

I have done it the same way (liquid soap) as pickmup with no problems whatsoever.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I'm thinking that I should get a GM gasket and throw the aftermarket. I do have new paint and definately don't want an accident. Perhaps removing the tank is the safe route.

I use Goop hand soap and a GM gasket. The hand soap will cling to the rubber and not run off. The GM gaskets are supple enough to be worked into place with two wooden popsicle sticks.
