Re: Vent Windows

I also have some, but they need to be rebuilt,
there not rusted out, but the chrome needs replacing or buffed...
the new ones are expennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnsive!!!
if QKENUF4U has a nice driver set, that would probably be the way to go.

Re: Vent Windows

I got one from Chevy Duty; it wasn't too bad and the price was decent.

Re: Vent Windows

You're looking at $300+ for new vent windows. I'd rebuild a set if I were you. You'd save a bunch of money.

Re: Vent Windows

Where would be the best place to buy complete vent windows if i were to not rebuild, considering to get used ones cromed is 150 per side here.
Thanks

Re: Vent Windows

Just something to ponder... I bought new vent windows from LMC and then I realized that I could've done the one piece window conversion for just a little more than the cost to replace the vent windows... hindsight is 20/20... oh well.

Re: Vent Windows

gmcpauls, athey, lmc, mothertruckers all sell new vent windows. I had a coupon and bought a set from classic industries a few months ago. they looked good, but wouldn't line up in my doors correctly, so I returned them and rebuilt mine. They're not perfect, but they do look good.

I was also pretty fortunate. I only put one scratch in my paint when I installed them. However, I did put a scratch in when I installed the wiper and inner felt for the roll up window...lol. Good luck.

Re: Vent Windows

I rebuilt one I bought a couple of years ago, fought with it, got the seals replaced and then wasn't happy with the results. The Window ended up being too tight to open or close. I guess I may have used the wrong kind of rivets, as they were stuck out too far, but I was able to use a grinder to get them cut down enough to be acceptable. The chrome wasn't in the best shape, but when I bought it, I was much tighter for cash.

Last week, I sprung for a new one instead, because with new paint, that old chrome would be even more obvious. But now, I'm not satisfied that the new one is "right". Unless I'm missing something here, there's a gap that shouldn't be there. Almost a 1/4 inch - the chrome should reach the top of the door, shouldn't it? Comment would be appreciated before I go to the trouble of taking these back. I don't see a manufacturers name, but I bought from a local supplier, and I'd think they probably all come from the same place.

Re: Vent Windows

That's the same thing that I had one the ones that I bought. One side was short, the other was high. Neither fit correctly, so I returned them for a refund. Since then, I had mine rechromed and I rebuilt them. They're 95% correct. Naturally, I have found some problems as one does with their own stuff.

I actually saved about $120 rebuilding vs purchase. I've got one more set that I plan on cleaning up, rebuilding and selling on the board. The chrome on them is perfect, and just needs a good polish. I've also considered having a few extra sets chromed just so I could rebuild and sell. There's enough of us unhappy with the repops that it might be worth while to do.

Re: Vent Windows

Thanks Incoma, I was hoping that I just got a bad one! $160+ is too much to spend for this kind of fit. I'll see what the vendor has to say...

Rebuilding these takes some time, plus adding in re-chroming, I don't know if you could actually make any money at it, unless you're thinking about doing it for your own vehicles?
