Steering Column teardown questions

I want to switch out the shaft from the original coulumn into the van one is this possible ? How do I get the shaft assembly out. I am doing the steering mod because of the bodydrop and the angles are too extreme. Thanks

Just the van is tilt, the other is not. If I cant swap them I will cut the van's shaft down and reweld the splined part farther up.

Re: Steering Column teardown questions

Your best to shorten the shaft that attaches to the steering box. And the van shaft is diffirent than the truck so they will not interchange.

Re: Steering Column teardown questions

It is on the steering box as far as possible (just the spline that sticks out)... Well I guess its off to cutting and welding !

Re: Steering Column teardown questions

You drill out the plastic rivits and hammer out the inner shaft. The cut off 2" from the inner shaft. smack it back together and add the U joints wherever you need them.

Re: Steering Column teardown questions

My setup looks like this and the problem is the shaft coming out of the column is too far down.
