Question Just got a 70 GMC 1500

I just purchased a decent 1970 GMC 1500 Custom pickup and have several questions for all of you who are in the know. First, the seller tried to tell me that it had a 350, but I'm thinking it might be a 307. How can I tell? I'm not convinced that the engine is original. It has a greenish blue intake with a 2 bbl Rochester carb on it. The valve covers are orange. The block is stamped on the front pad with the following: K11 21 DAF Then under those digits are the following: 48H164537 There is a fair amount of "cobbing" with the wiring in the engine compartment as well as under the dash. The original heater switch has been bypassed with a toggle switch under the dash that has a hot wire directly from the battery. I have a buddy who is planning to repaint the whole truck for me in the original blue/white two-tone and have already purchased a ton of parts to replace the missing/broken/worn ones on the truck. I'm thinking that maybe I should replace the wiring harnesses as well, including the fuse block, which has some rust and corrosion on it. Any suggestions where I can get decent used harnesses or new ones that won't cost as much as I paid for the truck? I appreciate all the help I can get, thanks!

For used you can subscribe and post a wanted to buy thread in the Parts board. For new any of the vendors that support the board should be able to help you.

BTW you know we need pics!

That K11 21 DAF might be the type of motor it is. Go here and look for that number. http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

The other number looks like the sequential number that might match your VIN. If it does, then that would be the original engine that came with the truck.

Re: Just got a 70 GMC 1500

Well, I did some looking on the internet and found a site that lists every small block Chevy engine code ever made, and it appears that the engine in my truck is a 305 that came from a passenger car (G) built in 1978. It runs really well and sounds great with the dual exhaust, so I'll likely keep it for the time being.

Go to www.photobucket.com and load some picures there and use the IMG box. There are instructions in faqs.Wiring harnesses are made by several companies now and reasonable.I would never bother with a used harness since it`s a bit of work.

Re: Just got a 70 GMC 1500

Yeah, it's a South Carolina truck, so there are very few rust issues, and they are minor. Mostly it needs a new paint job and some interior work. The little 305 runs great, but someday I'd like to find a 350 to put in there. I already mentioned that there has been alot of cobbing with wiring, so I'd like to replace the harnesses someday as well. Where can I find the correct paint codes for that year? I'm not certain that the original paint scheme was 2 tone, but it was blue at least, and I would like to continue the 2 tone theme (blue/white).
