It could be made in Canada but built to US specs. That's not uncommon. Looks like you got a good one ...Eh!

Re: my truck was made in canada??..?.what the.
Lots (at least 1/3 for at least 81-87) of these trucks were built in Canada for use in the US. My 84 is another example...

Re: my truck was made in canada??..?.what the.
hmmmm....i never knew so many trucks were made in canada, and sold here in the u.s.....seems kinda odd to me
if my truck was made in canada though, wouldnt the odometer be in kilometers?...i guess if it was made there, but was intended on being sold in the u.s., maybe they went ahead and put a miles per hour speedo in there... still seems weird to my hillbilly a$$

It doesn't matter where its made, They have to go by american standards. Just because a mercedes is made in germany, the odometer is'nt in kilometers if its to be sold in the u.s.. If your truck was to be sold in canada it would most likely have kilos on the speedo.

Re: my truck was made in canada??..?.what the.
I think all Canadian trucks were in MPH. In 1970 accord to the net Canada decided to go metric. So as with any government there was likely a phase in or lag time. Any Canadians here with a metric speedo?

My truck was made in Canada and sold new here in Texas.
Russell, who is Canadian, has posted pics of his speedo before, and it was in kilometers per hour. Slonaker |

If i recall correctly - In think the switch was in the 1977/78 period. Everything after that period shoudl be in kms's if built for the Cdn market...

Re: my truck was made in canada??..?.what the.
My 77's cluster is mph, but my 78's was km/h
78 was a half and half year, some were km/h, some not. 79 up, all Canadian trucks are km/h However, any trucks that were manufactured in Canada, but were destined to be sold in the USA got mph clusters

Both my truck's are in km/h. My Oil pressure is also in Kg's in the 85. the 81 does not have that luxury. My brothers 89 Cadillac Brougham has MPH but it's from North Carolina originally. Wonder where mines made forget the VIN now...

Hey Bigarmzz,
What's the big deal it was still buiit in No.America. And your speedo should be in both metric and standard. My '87 was built in Flint Mi. and my speedo is in both maybe that will ease your canadian pain. If not mayoflex works pretty good and it dont stink My '99 Tahoe was built in Mexico again it was still built in No.America so i dont let that bother me i just call her my Mexican Hoe! |

Re: my truck was made in canada??..?.what the.
My Chevy Pickup was made in Canada. I just put a Chevy engine in it that was built in Mexico. My Chevy Nova was a rebadged Toyota Corolla. Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords are built in the US. Toyota is building a plant here in San Antonio to build pickups. The Pontiac GTO is Australian, of all things, a Holden...

Re: my truck was made in canada??..?.what the.
Yes, we talked about it once before when I spotted one in the background of one of your pics. I have owned several Corollas and Novas when I was in college. They were cheap and reliable, but not much fun. Good little cars, though. I sold my last one a couple of years ago.
My truck is my "daily driver," but I work on it so often that I have a little Camry to drive when it is disassembled. I never have to do anything to it. It is in better condition even though it is the same age as my truck, it gets more than double the gas mileage, and it is worth next to nothing. It would probably give the old 305 a good run for the money in the quarter, too. Sometimes I wonder whyI even have the truck, you know? I always get over it pretty quickly, though. Slonaker |
