Advice on heads...please.
I bought a '79 truck for various parts for my '68, engine being one. I pulled the engine apart a week or so ago and found the casting numbers on the heads are not matching. They are the same as far as specs. I've got a problem reusing them because the casting aren't the same. Am I being anal or am I right not to use these head?
Here's my plan. I bought an Edelbrock C3B highrise intake a few weeks ago, so now the engine has taken on more of a performance build than originally intended. I'm not wanting to go all out high performance but I want the components to compliment each other. I'm considering a set of camel humps for the heads, does this sound in line with what I want? What do you suggest? Keep in mind budget is an issue. JKR

Re: Advice on heads...please.
NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ASWERING YOUR QUESTION, SO I'LL GIVE IT A SHOT. I'VE BUILT SEVERAL MOTORS (BOTH BIG & SMALL BLOCK) & I THINK WITH TODAYS VORTEC HEADS, THAT YOU WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO COME UP WITH A HEAD WITH BETTER FLOW NUMBERS FOR THE DOLLARS YOU'D SPEND. TO ME... IT WOULD BE NO QUESTION. I'D GO WITH NEW G.M. VORTECS OR SOME NICE AFTERMARKET HEADS. JOHN
OH... I WOULDN'T USE THOSE MISMATCHED HEADS EITHER. THEY MAY WORK OK... BUT I'D NEVER FIND OUT.

Re: Advice on heads...please.
You can mismatch them as long as you aren't trying to put a 63 cc head on with a 73 cc head. They were mismatched from the factory sometimes and deffinately over time. If you are going perf the votrecs are a good chioce if you are not going with a lot of lift (.450 is the max, some push it to .500) I have two or three sets of the double hump heads and I love them. Dollar for dollar you can go through a set of double humps for about the same money as the vortecs ($500ish) I just like the duble hump look!!

Re: Advice on heads...please.
Thanks for the replies. I would like to go with the Vortecs but demand is one problem and the other is fitment with the intake I have. I really want to stick with the intake I mentioned above.
Both of the heads I have are 73cc heads and I want to go with some 63cc heads. JKR
