Re: Factory style clear tailights
I dont know where they can be bought but your truck would look great with them . I have posted before that I think they look perfect on Silver trucks . All other colors , I like the factory Red as a contrasting color ......but silver just looks right with the clear factory style . Frank

Re: Factory style clear tailights
as far as anyone has found nobody seems to make them as they are illegal.. so everyone went to making the euro style lights.. many people have tried to locate them, but with no luck.. you might find some on ebay, but they go for a high price...

Re: Factory style clear tailights
I found some at a truck show in Pigeon Forge a few years ago and just about bought them. They were pretty cheap at the time but after walking around thinking about how many tickets I would get if I had them, I changed my mind. They are illegal, even with red bulbs.

Re: Factory style clear tailights
.... wait a minute. You guys kinda switched from clear taillights to clear sidemarkers.... clear "Euro" style taillights are perfectly legal... right? It's the clear sidemarkers that are illegal and ticket magnets....

Re: Factory style clear tailights
in Virginia any kind of clear light added to the vehicle is illegal. also blacked out taillights and headlights are illegal as well. i know because i got a ticket a few years ago for blackout kits on my camaros headlights. improper equipment is what it said on the ticket.

Re: Factory style clear tailights
What's the difference between clear taillights and Euros? Do clear taillights not have any red in them I'm assuming? Euros aren't illegal around here, grandma in her 1977 cutlass supreme has friggin Euros.

Re: Factory style clear tailights
You are right, Euros aren't illegal. Once again, we are not talking about Euros. We are talking about totally clear tail lights, with absolutely no red in them. They look just like stock lights but only clear.

Re: Factory style clear tailights
I don't get it. Why are clear tail lights illegal? As long as the bulbs are red, what does it matter? The Cadillac Allante had clear tail light lenses with red LED bulbs all stock. Is that illegal?
Sometimes lawmakers just erk me with these stupid laws. Last edited by ARAMP1; 01-29-2006 at 06:02 PM. |

Re: Factory style clear tailights
The Allante ones have a red lense in them, which makes them legal. There has to be some kind of red reflective material in the tail light assembly for them to be DOT approved for street use.

Re: Factory style clear tailights
my dad has clear tails that he has had on his truck for about 2 years now and we have yet been pulled over (knock on wood) but the tails have a red reflective strip on them to make them legal because they were never dot approved because of no red reflection thats why later on in the 90 on the 88-98 tails went from clear to clear with red in them to make them legal as far as anyother state u might check in to ur state laws to see what u can and cant run but i like my 41 chevy tails on my truck better than my euros

Re: Factory style clear tailights
The old clear ones for our trucks are not DOT approved and every set that I ever saw advertised, said so in the advertisement.
"For offroad use only". 82, Kayee uses that same description for all there ghetto lights. I'm sure they wouldn't actually care if you got pulled using there tail lights.
