luis, Did you buy that? Congrats if you did!!!! There is a board member in the upper midwest that had one for sale last fall. It was a low mileage unit that was very nice. Several guys were interested but no buyers. Maybe he still has it...LOL!

Mike's old one ton was a nice one.... 60K or so from what I remember...396... cool ride. Seats were like new.

That one on the auction has something odd... a small block, 2 wheel drive with an automatic.. yet it has a high hump floor.

The onlything consistant is the inconsistancy.

Good eye, as always, Andy! Did that boardmember ever sell his '68 motorhome? The only thing that does not make sense is the small block with all the weight.

Hmmm... wonder where I could find a nice 1968 C30 Open Road motorhome with 28k original miles for sale? Still have mine, and while it is in storage for the winter, it is still for sale. Had a nice chat with a prospective buyer this week, but nothing firm yet.

Re: 68 Cab and Chassis camper on Ebay, Cheap and almost over so Look fast

You caught me Joe. I bought it. Paid more for it than I wanted to, but somebody made a run at it in the end. I thought I was going to get it for $800 or $900. It was just so close to me that I couldn't resist.

By the way Joe, I got the 15x8.25's. They're great. Thanks!

I'm going to pick up the motorhome this week. I'll post pics after I get it. It's nice. Very, very clean body. Even the rockers are solid. I couldn't figure the high hump out either. The drivetrain is original though. It came with that 327 from the factory. It actually comes with a lot of NOS parts too - heater core, wheel bearings, fuel pump, etc.

I looked at some interior pics I had on file of other motorhomes that have come up over the years and I found a few that were small blocks with high humps. Not sure, maybe a motorhome thing. The old motorhomes tend to be pretty original.

Now, the next question you are going to ask is what are the plans for it. Some of you are going to kill me for this, but I'm hacking off the motorhome. The motorhome part isn't nice at all. It's missing some things, like the refrigerator, there's some rot in it, etc. I'm going to patch the pass through opening in the cab and put a really nice flat bed on it with underbed tool boxes and a nicely finished wood floor with removable stake sides. I bought the thing strictly for the cab and chassis. It will be a complete frame off resto. The interior cab will be re-painted the original fawn and the exterior will be the factory dark forest green color that was available in '68. Buckets will either be recovered or dyed to better match the fawn interior.

It was worth $1275 to me. It was close by and easy for me to pick up, which is worth a lot. The drivetrain, frame/suspension, sheetmetal, NOS parts that came with it and other things are worth that easily.

I'll keep everybody posted.

Thanks all.

I thought I learned from you guys when I first got on this board that it is the turbo 400 that dictates the high hump. Am I remembering that wrong?

No flaming here! A lot dont realize these old campers for the most part did not get that many miles racked up and are in better shape (exc for that hole) that will make a real nice flatbed, here's mine getting a new back put in

Looking good there Olden Days. Yeah, this motorhome only had 70k+ on it. I may have a question or two when it comes time for that cab patch.

TH400 doesn't mean high hum.
Here's the list...
all 4 speed trucks
all 4X4 trucks
All big blocks with 4 speed or automatic.

Adding to the list...and I have only seen 2 examples... 1/2 ton GMC trucks with the V6 and TH400, (owned one, and saw one other...never seen another since)
And now maybe... cab/shassis small block/auto????

Sure on the big block / auto? Mine's a '68 CST, came with a 396/ TH400, and I swear it was the low hump. Course, I haven't seen the truck in a few months since it's about 20 miles away, still waiting for a yoke .. but I might have to swing by and take a peek.

There's always "that one that isn't"...but yeah, I'm sure big block automatics are supposed to have high hump floors. There is supposed to be spacers toat jack the tailshaft of the tranny up, which made clearance too tight for the low hump floor.
If your 68 an original big block truck?

Hey Chris H. That '68 Open Road that you have for sale right now. It looks like a high hump? Can you confirm.

I looked long and hard at my pictures, and I thought it looked low hump?
I will take a trip out to my shed tonight and verify...

I bought one ot these for the cab , front clip and buddy buckets. It had a super clean 68 GMC clip. Just sold the rust free cab to a board member a few months ago. It had big block mounts and a th400, low hump. It didnt have a cut out back cab, just a pass through seal around the rear window. The guy I got it from bought it in an estate sale for the motor/trans and gear vendors od unit. Theres a running Gmc with the walk through cab, 327/th400 and factory cruise a few miles from here for 1200. I thought about getting for the bucket seats and parting it out but the wife will kill me If I hall more "truck shi*" home.

That is a really nice looking one. I was bidding on it for awhile. The '68 was a lot closer to me, plus I really wanted a 67-68 for a flatbed dually. I'll bet it ends up going for over $2000.
