My th350 is a leaker and I'm sick of it. I need to know what seals the shift linkage? I've got to replace the o-ring on the speedo gear and the shift linkage, but I don't have a clue what seals the linkage or how to replace it.

It's called a shift shaft seal. It's a tiny lip seal. Removal and replacement requires a special tool set. K-D tools sells both the remover and installer for 18 bucks. Well worth it too. Any other method and you risk putting a nick on the shaft and ruining the new seal too.

Remember, the speedo has two seals. One inside the bullet and an o-ring around the bullet. Usually, the bullet gets worn as well as the gear, so repair is a new bullet and gear both. Again, under 20 bucks.

Where can I get the new bullet? Do the part stores carry them? Mine doesn't have a seal on the inside (which probably explains the leakage). BTW I need to change my gear ratio (speedo reads slow) but I can't figure out what color this is? The driven gear is brown (18 teeth).

You can get a bullet from GM or any decent transmission shop (not chain store trans shop, greasy hands, dirty walls place)

Pull your tailhousing off and count the teeth on the drive gear.

Can you tell I did a trans job recently, with all the handy pictures I have?

How big a pain is it to pull the shaft off with the tranny in the truck?

BTW does any chainstore carry KD tools? I don't mind paying 17 bucks, but 10 bucks shipping is a little steep.

You don't pull the shaft at all. Just remove the tailhousing off the trans. Just unbolt it and tap it slightly with a mallet and it will come right off. That will leave the shaft sticking out like in my picture above.

I don't know who sells the K-D tools. Mine are Kent-Moore, which is GM's brand of specialty tools. I'd rather not say where mine came from.

Try doing a search on selector shaft seal tool or something. I'm sure several companies make the tools too. I just used KD because google turned it up first.
