What does this crome pc mean?
Do I ask the dumbest questions or what?
Here's my '72 that I've been sitting on for 6 years now and just started getting it back into shape. I know, I know, I suck. I got this truck from my uncle, where it was a desert truck. He was pretty out there, and painted EVERTHING white including his toys. I'm talking even the garden hose was painted white. So, now I want to bring 'er back to life and looking stock. I plan on using this mainly as a toy, hauling 'round my doghouse, but may also use it as a pickup. So to my question... what does the crome piece say about the originalness of my truck? Should there be other crome pieces, or is this it? BTW - I live in CA, and this setup is going to Alaska in a year. Last edited by dubya; 01-31-2006 at 12:33 PM. |

Re: What does this crome pc mean?
it means originally the roof was a different color. the chrome piece is a color divider. my truck was originally blue with a white roof, then the farmer painted the whole truck green and left the chrome trim on the back of the cab there, and removed the trim from the side of the truck. i'm painting the whole truck red and the trim is gone along with the side and tailgate trim. all the chrome i have is around the windows. it's all a preference.

Re: What does this crome pc mean?
Your truck was originally a two-tone paint color. Look at the data sheet on the glove box door. The paint code can be decoded to tell you what the lower body color was, originally. All two-tones came with white tops.

Re: What does this crome pc mean?
THAT PIECE OF CHROME IS CALLED A PAINT DIVIDER (OR SOMETHING CLOSE). ITS FUNCTION IS TO DIVIDE PAINT COLORS BETWEEN THE TOP & BACK OF THE CAB & THE BODY. IT WAS PROBABLY TWO TONE WHEN IT CAME FROM THE GENERAL. JOHN
(WOW!! I TYPE SLOW)

Re: What does this crome pc mean?
Mine is one color.(repaint) It has the chrome strip. Yes, the cab was 2 tone. I like it though so I plan to reinstall it after another repaint. I once saw a trim piece for the drip rail somewhere.

Re: What does this crome pc mean?
White was available as an accant with every color but...white.There was usually a couple other colors that were interchangeable with each other.Like Dk Olive/Med.Olive and Grapefruit/Med.Olive.
I still don`t know what crome pc means.Sounds like computer lingo.LOL Paint was available solid, and three 2-tones:1)top accent color,top/under belt-line accent, and top/between belt-line & upper side moulding. That camper looks right on that thing.Just what you need for AK.

Re: What does this crome pc mean?
Allright, to be clear... "What does this chrome piece mean?" was the question :-) Sometimes my wires get crossed from my brain to my fingers, and sometimes I don't catch my typos.
I do like the Pimp Cabin/Playboy Crib suggestions. I was told the other day that "This camper sure weathered better than the truck." I replied back to the guy, "no, the truck has weathered better than the camper. The truck is a living example of resilience, and the camper is just 'newer.'" I don't think he understood what I meant, so he just kept walking his wife and talking to his dog. (<---not a typo she was really worse off than the dog) Thanks Last edited by dubya; 02-06-2006 at 01:40 PM. |

Re: What does this crome pc mean?
wow, guess my all red truck used to be red & white then. Interesting..... Maybe I'll go back to that color scheme at repaint time. Keep up with the resto-rod look.
