Re: removing the gas tank??

Just gotta remove ~6 bolts. As for extra room, it's a wedge shape...that's about all I can tell ya. The hardest part of removal is getting the stupid rubber grommits off of the filler neck and off of the gas line going through the floorboard.

I'll find some pics hold on...

Re: removing the gas tank??

Does someone make a filler piece to weld in or do have to shape your own?

Re: removing the gas tank??

there are filler pieces out there but it's literally a round, barely curved piece of metal. You'll hafta shape it either way. all you need is a good body shaping hammer and block set to curve it once it's welded in. alternately, i have seen a plug that somoene makes for it, i guess (FirstGen had one on his truck) and i've also seen people french an antenna into that area, but i'm not sure how they drain the water out of it!

Re: removing the gas tank??

My first thought about removing the tank is to make sure it has very little gas left inside. I took mine out a few weeks ago, I did it by myself and it was about 1/4 full of very old gas. Due to the lenght of the tank and no baffles, I see-sawed back and forth all the way to the outside of my shop. It nearly got away from me. Once that gas hits one end of the tank, you have to have a strong back and a good grip. As for the hole it leaves behind, I plan on cutting a patch from one of the bedsides I'm replacing. Should be really close to the same shape if you cut it directly across from the existing hole.
