72 outer grille installation
I was trying to line up my new outer grille and install the rivets. I looks to me that it is too wide for the truck. Has anyone else run across this? I don't want to trim it if at all possible, any tips would be appriciated.
P.S. The old one is out and ready to be shipped if anyone still wants it. |

Re: 72 outer grille installation
When you say wide, do you mean it's not recessing against the
fenders? or is is worse than that? are your rad triangles bent?

Re: 72 outer grille installation
At the top, at the corners, the grille is like 1/4 of an inch too wide, it won't sink down between the fenders.

Re: 72 outer grille installation
When I replaced the one on BB ,I started from the center and lined it up ,didn't have the problem you are describing ,but I did have to redrill almost all the rivit holes to get a good fit .
you might want to return this one and try another . Mine was a aftermarket from the Truck Shop in Irvine SoCal .

Re: 72 outer grille installation
I had almost 2 days labor installing my new outer grill on my 72'. I was about to run out of the shop screaming. What I learned was that the aftermarkets are not EXACTLY the same as OEM, but also, it's critical that the fenders are adjusted to fit the grill too. I had to loosen and adjust the fenders a little and gently tweak the lower portion of the grill to fit between the fenders. It looks great, but was certainly a test of patience. I had had the entire front end off of my truck, so I was faced with lining up the fenders, hood, and grill to get the correct fit. Here is a picture of the spot I had the most trouble with.
