Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

IF You are going all the way,You would remove the front axle and springs and replace with the complete front suspension from 71-87 2wd,including the steering box.Remove the transfer, and trans. You would need a 2wd trans, and drive shaft,or at the least, put a 2wd tail shaft on the trans. The transfer case should be a np205.You would probably want to do an axle flip on the rear to lower it.That would put the springs under the axle, instead of over, like they are now.
Can I ask why you are wanting to do this?It might be cheaper and easier to trade for a 2wd.
Prices on the case varies, from region to region,$2-$400.Do a search on ebay. The th350-np205 adapter is a part that is sought after.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

Junk, you need to swap a 2wd frame under it.But,let us talk you out of it.I know the`Burb`s your baby. You could get decent money for your 4wd.Enough to replace it with a nicer 2wd.DON`T DO IT!!!,please?A GMC 4wd Suburban is a sought after vehicle and yours is a nice one.Don`t let all the idiocincrisities(I have no idea if that`s spelled right)inhibit a sale.If that`s the case,I`ve been there.Just put it out there as a nice one, because it is.Everytime I buy a "nice" truck,I end up with a laundry list. It`s to be expected.Seriously, what do you think it`s worth?I bet we`ll tell you it`s more.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

Drivetrain wise, you will need to get a 2wd tranny and lengthen your rear driveshaft. You might want to source a different transmission hump or at least weld up the 4wd hole in the hump. Probably need a different transmission crossmember - not sure on that. If you go 2wd, you will probably be going from 6 lug rims to 5 lug - so that is something to consider.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

First off, Im NOT selling my truck, yall have brought me too far for that. The MAIN reason i had thought of just removing the Tcase and all, Im sick of dealing with it. Honestly, seems like every time I turn around Ive got something wrong with something that has to do with that dang Tcase or something related to it. When I bought my truck, the PO told me that there was something wrong with the Tcase, and that the 4wd didnt work properly. I have NEVER used 4wd, NEVER had a reason to, so it didnt bother me. The new headache, some of yall remember me posting about the "shift shaft" seals, well, I dont know anything about them, but, I was told that some bracket or something had been welded in such a way (something neither one of us could figure out WHY), that Id have to drop the Tcase and CUT the seal out then WELD it back, he wants to charge me STARTING at 300.00 to change a 5.oo seal. I didnt want to lower it and all that, I just wanted to get rid of the source of the problem. I dont know what to do. I dont have anyone here that I trust anymore. The guy that helps me with my smaller stuff dont do anything with Tcases or trannys, he sends them out to this moron that im not about to send my FORD to much less my BURB. And for reasons that I cant go into right now, I cant do any of the heavy work myself right now. I guess Im just frustrated. I cant drive my truck much cause all the tranny fluid is leaking out that seal that we cant fix, and I dont want to chance burning up my tranny. Geezzzeee

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

If you are just wanting to get rid of the tcase problem, just toss the xmsn and tcase and go with a 700r4. Sell the 4wd xmsn, tcase and front driveshaft to offset the cost of lengthening the rear driveshaft.....it will keep the 4x4 stance and IF the need be come up to sell it, then it could easily be converted back to 4wd.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

It's gonna cost more to get the t-case out and replaced with a 2wd transmission than to fix the problem.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

Jodie you can find TC's for around 200 bucks. You need to find somone there that into 4x4s and works on them. There has to be somone in that area that could, will change your transfer for a reasonable price.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

Can You get a pic of what was welded.Could it be the t-case to trans adapter?A 205 case can be rebuilt,or in most cases, freshened up cheaper than replacing.I just replaced the gaskets and seals in mine. Was around $50.00 doing the work myself.Be careful if you try it yourself, they are heavy!

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

And lopsided. But really,it`s a pretty quick swap.If you had no problem but leaking,I`d say a reseal should be about $300.Maybe less.Get a quote,a shop should be able to give you a definate cost. Then you`ll know your goal.Good luck.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

Thanks for the replies. Yall just dont understand the quality of some of the people here. I dont trust anyone. You take your truck in, they act like they know exactly what they are doing, then they screw something up, dont tell you, then you are either just screwed cause you spent all you money on them, or you gotta take a chance and have someone else try to fix it again.

I dont have a clue what might be wrong with the Tcase. when I bought my burb, the guy told me there was something wrong with it, but it wasnt leaking at the time. So I dont know if it needs changed out or just gone thru. Where its welded, I dont have any idea, I didnt really understand what he was talking about, except that, the tcase would have to be dropped and something about the seal, would have to be CUT and the seal changed, then welded back. I cant do it myself, I cant do ANYTHING heavy myself anymore. Im gonna ask around at work and see if I can get any credible referrals. Thanks so much guys, yaller awsome!!

Ill keep ya udated if I can get something worked out.

Re: What kind of Tcase do I have??

Keep lookin`and askin`,till it feels right.I hear ya,I know what`s going on and 1/2 the time I pay for repairs I`m not happy. One thing for sure, done right or wrong,it still costs too much.I`d step outside of the GM truck world and check your area for a good Off-Road Vehicle business or just a gearbox specialist. That T-case came in alot of vehicles for nearly 30 years.
