Cab bushings

How hard are the cab bushings to replace? DOnt you just pull the bolts out, block the cab up, yank the bushings out, and put new ones in, and then put the bolts back in?

Also, would you use poly bushings or original-styled rubber ones? I put poly tranny mounts on my dune buggy and it seemed to be soft rugged stuff. What would you choose??

unbolt all 4, get your jack and a brick (for an extension) to lift at a suitable lifting location, lift one corner, do that one, and procede to the next one. i used energy suspension ones from gmcpauls and i had to shim the cab up a half inch or so because they were shorter.

the front bolts are welded to the floor, i used a cut off wheel on those 2 (after backing the nut off) then the bolt came up with a couple hits from a hammer underneath because it was packed with dirt and rusty metal in there.

I prefer to do one side at a time and not take them all loose at the same time. This helps keep the cab in position somewhat.

Huh? The front bolts are welded to the floor? The dont look like they're welded on my truck.

mine are not welded to the floor held them with a wrench inside the cab and used a breaker bar underneath with a socket they came right out hope this helps

interesting, i'm pretty sure it was stock on my 72 because the single owner i bought it from only had a certain welder than bonded with gold colored weld (for a loss of the welding name) and this bolt had silver (rusty actually) weld

Stock, they were tack welded to the floor. You have to break the welds the first time.

Used stock kit,from Christian Classics. Around $60 or so.

Three very important things to do:

1. Really loosen the radiator mounts to give the front clip some slack.
2. Block the wheels because raising the cab will knock it out of park and the truck will roll onto your leg.
3. Confirm you did Number 2 or you will do Number 2.

Question: My bolts were replaced...what's a good way to keep em from spinning? I want to take them out (alone) and don't have an extra pair of hands.

Insert safety note here: A block of solid wood will be okay, but never use a brick, concrete block, or cinder block to lift anything that you will be working under.

i just replaced mine monday night 69 3/4 ton
i just used the stock set my cab sets higher and i spent 100.00 for the set
took about 1 hr to do
i did mine one at a time
the bolt unscrews from the bottom and the nut is welded in the cab floor under the tank....VERY EASY
the fronts folded the carpet over to get to the bolt blasted with the air gun..
boom done..
i would say a stock set will out last your ownership of the truck..
got extra cash to spend buy poly
