Who has ART StrongArms!!!!!!

Is anyone having a problem with clearance with their StrongArms? I'm running 2 1/2 dropped spindles and because of the design of the shock location, the shock stud tends to drag the ground. Has anyone modified the shock location for better clearance?

I just got mine and im running 3" spindles and I dont think Ive ever dragged my shocks yet. I run about 90PSI now though while driving to not eat my fenders.

i ve gotem too , with a stock crossmember the arms hit on mine , no problems with shocks , but that is only with the motor and trans in place mine doesnt drive yet , hope this helps oh and im running 2 1/2 drop spindles as well

i have them also about three weeks. i have not put my shocks on yet drives fine 2.5 dropped spindles and 20's

Why would you drive it around w/o shocks?

I'm thinking about modifying the lower shock mount to help gain a little more clearance. I will probably go with some taller tires when I buy my rims to help also.

Jhah, You have a great looking truck. What are you running for suspension? Drop spindles, bags, control arms? What about the rear? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Im not really seeing where the shock stud would hit in your picture... Hrmm..

The red line is parallel to the ground. The shock mount is angled down and actually hangs lower than the bottom of the a-arm. I'll try to take some better pictures.

Hart_Rob, a pic is worth a thousand words. I have the ART arms but they're not installed/on the road yet. I noticed the shock mount was low but didn't realize it would be lower than everything else. It looks like you found out the hard way.

I'm not sure why they designed it this way. It would seem very simple to put the bracket on top of the arm. Will I be able to find a shock short enough if I flip the bracket over?

I would think you should be able to find something the correct length or you could consider raising the upper mount slightly & use the stock shocks. I raised the upper mounts on my 74 to be able to use typical HD gas shocks from local suppliers.

The 67-72's don't have as much room (I don't know why there's a difference but there is) as the 73/later frames but there are relocation kits out there.

Hrm. I didnt use a ART Supplied Shock mount, I made my own so mine doesnt sag THAT bad. But I also still have inner fenders, so my tires wont let me lay arms too bad anyways.

Ill try to get some pics either by tommorow or sunday. Im rebuilding my motor atm and should be done by then. Then I can air up and down.
