eaton 3rd

I was hoping someone here might be able to help, rather than drag out the thread on the parts board. I am looking for an eaton 3rd with a posi and 4.10 gears. It looks like getting a posi might be a little more difficult and $$$ than originally thought. Can anyone explain the process of putting a detroit locker into an eaton case? I am new to working on rear axles, so please lay it out step by step if you would.
Also, if the detroit locker proves less expensive, I will be hopefully swapping to 4.10's front and rear, are 4.10 gears for the d44hd as hard to come by as it seems everything else attached to my one year off truck is? (brakes, hubs, hub tools, posi unit, gears, etc)

Re: eaton 3rd

Haven't done it YET but have seen several threads on the pirate4x4.com board where guys swap 14 bolt posi's into eaton's by changing side gears, using 14 bolt axles (some have reported having to shorten them)
You may want to lurk over there and do some searches IMHO.

Re: eaton 3rd

rainfade, foolish question, why do you have an eaton rear axle in a 71 k20?

also, as mentioned above, I am new to the world of axles, so is installing a detroit locker something I can manage, or is it like swapping rear gears (where I am told, if you don't know what you are doing, best to just pay someone who does?).
Thanks
