lowering a 4x4?

Is it possible to lower a full size 88 Blazer 4x4? I just found a decent deal on one and I'd like to turn it into a Typhoon style street performance vehicle with an aggressive/low stance and probably 18” rims. What type of issues would I run into doing it?

Hmm your steering I dont think would like the angles but I dont know that for sure. You wouldnt have to much clearance between the front axle and the front crossmember. You could have the front springs de-arched and put a drop shackle and hanger in the back to lower it a bit but I think front axle clearance will be an issue. You could use one of the offroad design front crossmembers that tuck up higher. Try it and tell us if it worked or not. Why not just convert it to 2wd?

Not if it is a solid axle 4x4, which it is.
Issues would begin at the front leafs/steering and be compounded from there.

Oh. I guess I will do some searching to see how hard the 4x4 to 2wd conversion is. Thanks for the replies.

All you need is a 2wd front suspension and steering box....

If you convert it, you don't have to go far for info. There is a HUGE post on here of someone that swapped both ways on 2 trucks. It WON'T be AWD though. Only way to do that is section the front of a 88-up 4x4 and put it under there.

So, do you mean that even if I left it the way it is (4x4) it isn't meant to be left in 4x4 mode all the time?

I think you are talking about one thing and I am talking about another.

I am saying that if you put a 73-91 2WD front crossmember under it, it WON'T be AWD or 4x4 becuase a 2WD crossmember doesn't have the provision for a front driveshaft.

Can you leave a 88 4x4 in 4Hi all the time, it wasn't designed that way. 4Hi is for off road conditions.

AWD is a completely different Transfer case than what a 4x4 has. It is ALWAYS in AWD mode and can't be shifted.

would it be possible to adapt the transfer case and front suspension from an AWD Astro? That would be pretty trick.
