Title?

I have a 72 3/4 ton big block truck that I'm going to part out. I have a clear title, but what do I need to include for this to be a legitimate sale?

Re: Title?

If you are parting out you don't need the title (may vary from state to state) unless someone wants to build a truck with the cab (although some states may look at the frame too). IMO

Re: Title?

That's what I was wanting to do is sell someone the title with whatever else was needed to build a legitimate truck. So if they need the frame, ID plate, ect. I want it to be a legitimate transaction. I'm not trying to sell this yet. When I do I will put it on the correct board. Just want it to be legal.

Re: Title?

I've had some close friends who deal with similar things. Cut the door jamb around the VIN plate and include it with the title.

Not that any of us would ever re register it....we call them "collector's documents" that can be framed for the wall.

Re: Title?

With that said, I will go ahead and ask the obvious. What is it worth?

Re: Title?

The way I word sales for that kind of stuff is

FS, Bare cab, frame, VIN plate and title for XX vehcile.

Description:

Bare Cab and frame completly rusted out. Title is clear(inlcude status of registration, or fees owed) VIN plate is clean, undamaged and legible. Frame and cab are completly shot. You can take as much or as little as you like, shipping is your responisbility.

OR

FS, collector documents, and articles. Frame and cab remnants, vin plate, and title for XX vehcile.
(in otherwords, what you do with it once I get my money is your business) If you word what you are trying to sell wrong, you are breaking the law.
What the buyer would be doing is VIN tampering, a felony IRC. Not shure what that makes you, but you are still breaking the law somehow (unless as previously mentioned, you are selling "collecter documents" and collector items. That I think would be the safest bet for wording.

If the person asks to sell the title and VIN seperatly, dont post a reply on the thread, PM or email him. No need to get your host involved with the law (assuming things came to that)

Depending on the state you are in, they do registration based off of the frame, or the cab. In ca for instance, they will do the frame, unless something like a willys on a toyota frame is done. Then its a willys. If your truck is not hot, or something seriously screwed up with the paperwork,(liens, judgments etc )there are ways of getting a legitimate new VIN for a truck, simply involving going to the local authorities (or state police) and getting a VIN verification, paying some fees, jumping thru DMV hoops, and wallah, you have a title. In areas where smog testing is not an issue, I am leery of selling titles to people. You can make a hot truck a legit one with a title and VIN plate, sell to unsuspecting buyer. Unless you do something really really stupid, most police wont even check VIN plates against the frame.

Not shure if this makes sense or not, I keep adding and deleting stuff, im gettin confused so I will quit while i am ahead.

Good luck!

Re: Title?

Don't forget to include the glove box door, some states like Kansas allow you to sell the title and vin plate. However, some of the states also like Kansas require two placed for the vin to be verified if the title is from out of state. Hope this helps, PS depending on the state the title goes with either the body or the frame. Again referring to Kansas the title goes with the frame.

Re: Title?

I just registered a truck in TX bought from AR. They checked the glove box against the frame and door jam. TX requires a form filled out by state inspector and he didn't let anything slide.

Re: Title?

I`d sell it as a parts truck w/title.Just give them the frame with cab on it ,minimum. The buyer can cut, switch,or whatever. This would be 50 state legal.
