what is best? np203? or np241?
i dont know the difference....

203, 205, 208, 241, etc. They all have their pros and cons. What are ya lookin for?
203 durable but chain drive & fulltime unless converted. 205 bulletproof gear drive but higher low-range. 208 (chain drive) great low range but weak for most anything but daily driver. 241--chain drive but stronger than 208. Still weaker than 205. |

What is best,203 or 241?I like 241s.The difference in toughness the 205 has over a 241 wouldn`t make a difference in most situations.It`s kinda hard to find right-side drop 241s.I grab them when I see them.

205 is bullet proof..with a 1:96-1 ratio
203 is heavy and has a chain 2:0-1 ratio 242 is light has a chain but has a nice 2:72-1 ratio The 203/205 combo is needed for the offroad design doubler... There is a new gear set on the market for a 205 - 3:0-1 gears set which includes a new case due to the larger gears. There is also a company who installs a 3:0 -1 gear set in the range section of the 203.... Depends on what ya want to do.... DW

205 is gear drive and is bulletproof. 2 of my trucks have them and they have never been rebuilt and they are nearing 30 years old.
Had a 203 behind a TH350 and 454 and KABOOM went my spider gears through the side. Some are part time, some are full time and some have been converted. Mine obviously was not the right combination behind a big block. I used to think my truck could fly, too. 208 in the burb and it is chain drive. This one has tranny fluid in it and is coupled to a 700R4. Rear yoke is a slip and if you lose a U-joint, you may lose your output shaft. Don't have a 241 and never worked on one. Can't go wrong with a 205 IMO Peace

203 is a full time case, and extremely durable.....but very, very heavy.

I have a 208 chain drive in my '87 Suburban mated up to my 350/700r4. Mine does really good when i'm out playing in the red clay in 4-hi. I am gonna wait and see what happens after i replace my blown motor with a freshly rebuilt somewhat high performance 350.
