1990 1 ton Dually Bed on '67

Hello all,
I have the option to pick up a free '90 dually short bed from my Dad who's making a roll-back out of his truck. I know I've seen '67-70's with later model stepside beds, and the lines look pretty good, but has anyone put a later model fleet-side on their truck? Any pics?

Looks like who ever did that one di a nice job. they rework a few lines for the bed and cab to meet up that smooth. I definitely like it myself.

I like it and I also like the clearance lights--are they oem?

They may be OEM, but they aren't correct for the cab.
The lines come close, but as is, not close enough. Black hides lines and shadows, but any color other than black will probably look bad.

Attached is pics of a not black bed showing the poor match up, and also of stock clearance lights for a 67 - 72 truck, this pic is of Longhorn Jef's 69 longhorn.

I do like the look of that bed... do the 1 tons use the trailing arm suspension still? And are they a straight front axel with king pins? I'm just wondering how much work I would have to do to mine to make it a 1 ton. I could just take the fenders off the bed and have a newer fleetside with good metal in the bed... I'll run the truck over there in a couple of weeks and see what it looks like. I have a stepside now, and it's pretty rusty. Thanks for the responses and pics.

old puter that chrashed, he had a slide in camper for it also.

one tons only came with leafs, and they all had independant front suspention.

GruntyPants,are your Stepside fenders shot?If they are anyway fixable,look me up if you take your bed off.Actually,I`d like to see pictures of the whole bed and would consider buying the whole thing.

I honestly haven't looked at the bed too closely. I just removed it so that I could start getting rid of as many rusty bits as possible. I'll take some pictures and get them posted on my website. I'll PM you when they are available.

There's not such thing as a shortbed dually, I seen only one but it was a custom made one, they attched the dually fender to a fleetside shortbed.

Andy! just when I finished reading the 1st post I started thinking about that very same truck you posted a pic of!!!

BTW, not only they don't match up at all on the top of the bed, the fenderwell in the bed looks like crap when mixed with classic iron, JMHO

I have a 67 C/30 that has cab lights on it but don't look like those. They look like the ones on my 73 & 76 & 77. I bought it because it had a clean Tn. title and a good transmisson. Turns out the 250 I-6 runs good too. It has the big wheel option that is hard to find tires for. It is worn out and rough bodywise but I've been kicking the late model dually bed idea around and that one looks good. I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how to. (save your ink I have read all the tips posts and had 3 "experts" come over here and can't make it happen) Next step is website with link to it!!! Can't wait to get home from work every night to log on and unwind. Thanks Guys

The Dooley bed thing gets a little confusing after`88.There were two styles 88-91 since the R/V series was made along with the "new" C/K.Also,thinking about it,I realized that towards the tailend of the 88-00 Dooleys there were crewcabs w/6' beds.For towing,I guess.

You're right about the different styles in 90- through whatever... It seems my Dad's dually is still the 80's style squared cab and bed... even though it's a '90. Apparently they didn't update the 3500's at the same time as the '88 1500's. Anyone got a timeline for those body changes?
I'll get some pics of the old step-side and the '90 dually bed today or tomorrow if I can get home before dark.

I'd do that coversion in a hearbeat if I had all the parts to do it.

I should clarify: The black C30 pictured in this thread is not mine, just a picture I took from the "where are the 1-tons" thread. I dont plan on ever having my 72 C30 looking that nice, I want to use it!!

The bed pictured on the black C30 is a 88-98 8' dually bed. I do like the looks of the dually flares from those years, but the body lines just dont match up right in my eyes. It looks like a very nicely done truck, and probably works real well.
I also notice that it uses the wider dually rear from a dually pickup, not the cab & chassis width.

The R/V type(old style)were made through`89 in Dooley(pickup) and cab`n`chassis(60"& 84" cab to axle) with the regular cab.The Crewcabs were made through`91.Since`88 the new style C/K Dooleys and Cab`n`chassis were made in regular cab,then in`92 the new Crewcabs came out.This style truck was available in HD 8-lug through`00 overlapping with the`99-ups.In`01 the HD series was introduced in the newer`99-up style.This is all to the best of my knowledge.

I'm amazed that no one has mentioned that the lower body line that everyone comments aobut lining up so whell.... simply doesn't match the cab. It may line up, but it is a totally differant shape.
Then the upper line on the cab, is totally missing on the bed.
Yes, the 88 - 98 trucks were good looking, arguably, almost as good looking as the 67 - 72 trucks, and in my opinion, those two generations ar ethe only two that look good, but mixing them just doesn't work.
