Guys with alarms installed where's your LED?

I have installed an older model Sidewinder alarm in my 77 GMC LWB (to add keyless entry to an aftermarket power door lock conversion I am installing this weekend). Yes, I did it backwards, but anyway...

Those of you who have alarm systems installed in your trucks, where are your L.E.D.s installed? I'm thinking about putting a hole in the upper center of the gauge bezel (between the speedo and fuel gauge). Any pics of alarm equipped truck dashes would be appreciated.

Re: Guys with alarms installed where's your LED?

I had my LED next to the Check engine light above the speedo and fuel gauges, but most people don't have that spot unless you have a CA truck. I just put in the billet dash which covered it up so I relocated it to the transmission gear indicator - but you can't see it during the day. I switched it to a blue LED too. It faces down so you can't even tell it is there unless ou run you hand on the lip of it. Can't really get pics because you ca't see it at day. I was thinking about puting it where you were or I was thinling of putting it next to the vent by the light switch. One other spot (but hard to get to) is next to the defroster vent.

Mine is mounted just above the radio in the panel, so that I don't have to look at the third eye in the middle of the dash. A lot of the installers put the LED right between the speedo and the fuel gauge bezels---UGLY as sin.

Re: Guys with alarms installed where's your LED?

You have to decide what you want the LED to be there for. Is it just so you know your alarm is set, or is it to deter someone from breaking in your truck. I have installed the mini high output LED's in lots of places to make them very obvious to a thief.

Some examples would be-
Drilled a tiny hole in the door handle (88-98) and installed a mini LED flush with the surface.
Mounted one inside the 3rd brake
Mounted one in the cargo light (88-98)
Mounted one in each tail light
Mounted one behind the rear view mirror

As you can tell there are a gazillion places to hide an LED so it's not obvious at a glance, but becomes very obvious at night. Another reason to mount one in a location other than what is quick and easy is to let the thief know it's not your average install.

Of course I have also installed interior sirens, xenon strobes, and a few other tricky items as well.....

I definitely want it there for theft deterence. You know, I should probably switch the hood latch to an inside-release....

I would go with the Thermo-Nuclear high intensity flashing light that will dessimate the truck when someone opens the hood. Also leave a holster for a 44 Mag on the seat, so that whomever is trying to steal the truck will wonder where the guy that owns the gun is.
