small block, and some one made the hole bigger to make it easier to place the engine on them. Seems some ppl have problems getting the bolt started in this style mount.

I'm curious about something - I bought the big block mounts for my 72 - of course, the expensive ones!) Primarily because of concern that the exhaust won't clear the sbc towers - Yesterday, looking at a new friends '68 with a 572 in it (yep, 572) and he has the small block towers and the headers were NO WHERE near the mounts. Am I too missing something here?

I would question this, because I have tried this several times and the headers always hit. See what mounts he used (not just the towers, but the actually rubber mount, as well as the headers) he may be on to something here!! I know you can use the 73 up mounts to mount a BBC in as well as using the sbc mounts, then using stock bbc exhaust manifolds.

depends on header brand. I have seen big blocks on small block stands with headers and the pipes no where near the stands.

Hey Guys! I am a newcomer to this neat site. As a matter of fact, I met Luvlegs at a local hardware store and he introduced me to the site. I am not sure if this will be of help, but since I have a big block with headers mounted on what apears to be small block motor mounts, I thought pictures may help (that is if I can size them correctly and get them attached to this message).

welcome to the board raycn66. Those mounts of yours are 68-71 big block. The small block stands do not use the pad on the bolt head side,and do not have the dip where your header pipe is. John

Here is a pic from the front looking down the frame rail... little easier to see where yours is dipped and small blocks are not.

Question: Now, do I have to worry that the 72 big block mounts are not going to give me the clearance I need for headers as they appear to lower the engine much closer to the frame than the stands in Raycn's pics?

Now I am confused, I have the same stands as Luvlegs in my 72 with a SBC. I thought the stands that Luvlegs has pic'd was a 73 up chevy SBC stand?

Are the 72 BBC & 73 up SBC stands the same?

By the way, my truck shows a 350 CID engine on the glovebox sticker.

72 was a one year only piece...73 and up are close, but not the same

72 big block and 73 and up small block stands are very similar to the naked eye.

Here's how to tell the difference...

Look at the top of the mounts in the picture.

See the two bolt holes with the raised ridge between them? That's a 72 big block stand. 73 and newer stands look the same, but have two ridges on the top of them, not one.

Remember that little nugget. Someday, it could make the difference between a real score at a swap meet or buying a useless part.

ok, so I have the 72s, and I guess my 454 on top of these will give me all the clearance I need for my hedmans right?
(If I was at the engine swap point, I'd do it now just so I know I'll be ok....)

I am running the same mount you show in your pic on MY Big Block and have LOTS of room with Dyno Max headers. They both go in very easy from the bottom. I have a mini starter and was able to leave it in place, You may not be so lucky with a standard starter

Thanks for answering my question when I hadn't even asked yet!! I have always thought I had 73 up SBC stands in my 72, but here are some pics of mine. Are they really 72 BBC stands?????

I have 69 BB stands with small block motor mounts. They work fine. I had to make a square washer 3/16 thick for the inside of the tower. Small block mounts are cheap compared to the BB ones. M2C
