I have never seen a GMC with Longhorn badges, maybe is because they never had them

GMC had the Longhorn version, but they were called Custom Camper, never Longhorn, I have a '69 GMC

Grown Man`s Longhorn, right?Does the option sheet list them as Longhorn on Chevys and CustomCamper on GMCs?Or is it just in the wheelbase code?

Re: GMC Longhorn??????????

the option sheet in mine is faded, real bad I guess the badges are the ones setting them apart, that and the front end, chebby has the Longhorn badges by the rear sidemarkers on the bed, GMC has the Custom Camper badges on the doors on top of the door handles, the vin should also tell you if is a GMC or Chebby.

Re: GMC Longhorn??????????

Longhorn, or the GMC custom campers have 8 1/2 foot beds, not 9 foot. As stated above, the one ton step side had the 9 foot bed.
Longhorns were chevy, Cusome Campers wer eGMC
Neither show it on the option sheet becouse this was not an option, it was it's own model code. just like you'll never see SWB, LWB, fleet or step ever listed on the SPID label.
To throw a stick in the spokes here, Custom Camper was also an option package that could be put on any truck also.... consisting of nothing more than HD shocks, springs, tires, and a sway bar. So when looking at a GMC with the custom camper badges on the doors you need to look at the bed for the verticle line 6 inches back from the front of the bed to verify it is in fact a 'longhorn' Custom Camper.

Re: GMC Longhorn??????????

That`s what I was thinking with the CustomCamper being not "only" the 8.5' Fleetside GMC cousin of the Longhorn.

Re: GMC Longhorn??????????

On the GMC I have is a 1972 it's a GMC Sierra Grand and is a Longhorn iwth the correct option code. And that is correct GMC never badged theirs as Longhorns they just sold them as a Model #
CE20634. That is the only real way to tell if you have the right truck and not just one that someone claims is a longhorn or that someone put a Longhorn bed on. IMO but Longhorn man is suppose to be the expert. Ask him, right Longhorn Man,

Re: GMC Longhorn??????????

My 72 GMC 2500 super custom has the custom camper option with the Custom Camper door badges, but it has an 8' bed. It has aux batt, camper wiring and heavier rear leaf springs.

Re: GMC Longhorn??????????

A 'Custom Camper' does not necessarily mean the truck has a 8.5' bed. It just means that the truck has the camper equipment package (sway bar, H.D. brakes, ect.). Of course, since the 8.5' bed model was designed for campers, most if not all will be 'Custom Campers'. The 'Sierra Grande' was the top level trim package. That package could be on any Wideside, 6.5', 8', or 8.5' bed.

Re: GMC Longhorn??????????

I agree.I`ve seen GMCs(8.5 footer)that were original/unrestored w/o the CustomCamper script. It seems GMC just didn`t play them up marketing-wise.Just another configuration in their "truck only" line-up.But,I am gullable and naive,so I`ll agree with the next comment, too.lol

That's my understanding. GMC "Longhorns" really didn't have a model name or badging like the Chevy Longhorns did. The were just considered long bed /long wb trucks.

Anyone ever seen a 68 GMC "Longhorn" or evidence that they really exist? I can't recall ever seeing one pop up on this site. A few 68 Chevy Longhorns are being found but the 68 GMC "Longhorn" must be a really rare bird if it exists.
