Black Door Panel Questions

I am currently in the process of rebuilding the Green Machine and am thinking about painting some of the interior peices black to match the factory green/black interior. The problem is that the truck had stock all green interior and I don't know if they painted the stock door panels for the green/black interior Semi-Gloss Black or just a plain Gloss Black.

Re: Black Door Panel Questions

The lime 71 truck I just bought has a black interior with the metal panels and I was surprised at how glossy the black was on them, making me guess gloss was original. They could have been repainted, but the truck has sat for decades so I would bet they were the factory paint.

Re: Black Door Panel Questions

Is "they" the factory or whoever painted your green panels black? The panels aren`t painted from the factory.I`d imagine whoever painted the panels wouldn`t have used gloss.I wouldn`t.

Re: Black Door Panel Questions

The panels on my olive 70 were semigloss black from the factory. If you want original, I'd go that way. If you this gloss would look better, do it.

Re: Black Door Panel Questions

if you are looking for a semi gloss to flat look i have had excellent luck with a product called SEM. we use it all of the time to dye new plastic pieces that do not match the interior. might give it a try. you can find it at your local upholstery supplier.
