blazer skid plate whats it worth?

I bought a 72 blazer today, it`s rusty and wrecked in the front, but has some neat options.one of which is a skid plate under the gas tank. How much is it worth or what do they usually sell for? Are they hard to find ? Thanks Woody

Re: blazer skid plate whats it worth?

They're pretty hard to find. I think a lot of people got rid of them to make room for trailer hitches. That's what the p.o. on my Blazer did. Someone on the board was making reproductions. I bought one. It's nice.

Re: blazer skid plate whats it worth?

They were aftermarket, weren`t they?I don`t think they came with them and I haven`t seen a Blazer with it listed on the VIN-spec sheet.I have one that I took off a`72 that had other add-ons like dual aux.tanks, steel lockable console, swingout spare tire/gerry can carrier, and chrome smoothies & moons.I don`t think there`s a set price, but I would think somewhere around $50.

Re: blazer skid plate whats it worth?

Like all used parts, the value depends on DEMAND and CONDITION. I am sure these were a real GM option. Two board members make nice skid plates. nu2-72 and another that I don't know where to look up right now. One of them is Blazer tank (also good for 4X4 with rear mounted tand) and the other is the TC skid.

I think this one is original, here`s a pic of the options list on the glove box door.

I think that option is the TC Skid plate, my opinion...

Re: blazer skid plate whats it worth?

I assumed the skid plates were a package deal - buy the TC skid plate and you get the gas tank skid plate. But ya know what the first three letters of assume are...

How about those "front tow hook"s? Now we know what those things are worth, don't we?

Re: blazer skid plate whats it worth?

Did that have dual batteries?I`m ASSuming that`s what the heavy duty auxilary in the top right corner is.Alot of good options on a non-CST.

Re: blazer skid plate whats it worth?

My truck has the skid plate option listed in the glovebox. It has the TC skid plate and had a gas tank skid plate on it originally. The owner's son in law remembers it being removed and junked. I think they were a package deal.

The "AN3" code is for the optional passenger side front seat. Its "Heavy duty auxilary seat" but there is not room for it to be all typed out.

Also, I have a 100% original 72 Blazer with the skid plate option and it has a T/C plate and a fuel tank plate.

Re: blazer skid plate whats it worth?

Good eyes,I couldn`t make out the code.Next time I`m up to where my`72 Blazer is I`ll check my option sheet.I assumed they were added because of the other stuff. That Blazer`s tank rusted-out,thanks to the skid-plate.
