Thumbs down Newbie

I'm new to this so be patient, I'm working on a 68 Chevy3/4 ton dooly frame up restoration. Since pa. put emission testing into affect it became time to pull out the older exempt classics I plan to use it to tow my classic race car which is a 1932 chevy 3 window coupe reproduction fullout race vehicle which is raced 30 or more times a year. I'm planning to build anew race car for the imca modified circuit. But thats next years project if the sponsors come through. If anyone knows of any other parts suppliers besides classic industries I would like to know. Nice to get to know other chevy truck lovers.

Re: Newbie

Welcome from west Tn. Good to see another racer end up here.Good luck on up grading the brakes hope you can find all the parts you need. Lot of truck mechanics on board that can steer you in the right direction. Click on the photo bucket link in my sig. and take a look at what I use to pull my 24 ft. with. It's a 1999 extended cab 1500 silverado. I have the eq. hitch and sway control on it. I haul a BB 1972 Nova Drag car around with it. No problems yet. It has the 5.3 and has 128000 miles on it. I've been real distressed to hear that those engines are junk. Damned good thing I'm hard of hearing or hard headed or both. Keep us updated on your progress

I recently put a 383 in my '69 C-30 Car Hauler. I replaced the original 396 BB that was in it. As much as liked the the old 396, this 383 is a brute! I have built several of these, but always for race engines. This is the first 383 truck engine I've built, and this thing is strong! It has much more power than the 396 did, and is much better on gas also. I am surprised by how much more low end torque it has. If anyone is thinking of building a 383 for your truck, I highly recommend it. If anybody wants the specs, I'll be glad to email them to you. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't sound as good the 396 did. I miss that low, deep exhaust note that a BBC makes under a load, but if that's all I have to give up, I'll take it.

Also, since your fairly new to the board check out the 1 ton thread if you haven't already seen it.
