registration question for california
i have a chance to buy a very straight truck in ca. the problem im having is the frame and cab vin nos dont match. the vin no on the title is for the frame. the title is salvage. can salvage titles choose between frame or cab vins? does anyone have an answer to this? i dont want to buy it if im going to have problems if stopped bu chp and they check registration against cab vin. please respond soon if you have any input. the damn thing has a 72 frame with 6 bolt drum front and rear. 68 front clip and bed. 71 a/c cab. 350 with 187 heads, headders and complete new exhaust. he want 1k. im trying 500 for messed up paperwork.

My experience is they go with the frame #. Since they are inspected at your local CHP office instead of an inspection station, you should be able to just drop in on a station and ask.

I'm not one to talk so you didn't hear it from me.but i would take the one off the cab use the frame and chp will stamp the new one to the cab.
