Hello from Alaska

Hey guys, I have a 71 4x4 3/4.

So far i have put new tires and rims (came with split rims and worn out farm tires). Complete cooling, exhaust system, all new u joints, front shaft seals. Next up are springs (will springs off of a 70 3/4 fourby work?) gm crate motor (little one), and possibly bucket or split bench seats from an 02 chevy truck. Anyone done that? Would like the built in shoulder belts. Also need to upgrade to a one wire distributor and get rid of my points. I will figure out how to post a pic and take a couple

Re: Hello from Alaska

I am in Anchorage unfortunately. I am trieng to talk my girlfriend into moving out to KGB road. More room to work on my truck. As soon as spring hits I am putting on a new used bed doors, cab corners, rear floor pans, and pillars. Fixing a fender and minor dings then painting it. Springs and a fresher motor to go then it will be done.

Welcome to the board. The springs will be interchangable. 73-up front springs are too long though.

Welcome! I spent three years in Anchorage back in the 80's. I'd like to go back for a visit sometime, I'm sure it's much different now.

All 67-72 4x4 leaf springs do interchange? I've been trying to find this out for awhile but no luck.

Re: Hello from Alaska

yah I am in Anchorage, havent been to the tooth for quite a while. Every time I eat there I get a gut ache. Don't know why everyone else is fine. I will post some pics next weekend. Starting today I am unfortunately in a 10.5 hour a day training class with studieng for an hour or two afterwards. Taking away from my quality chevy time. What do people think of the gm 290 hp longblock crate motor? Also what holley carberurator do I want for this thing and where can I get a conversion distributor to get rid of my points?

Re: Hello from Alaska

I'd go HEI as far as the distributor goes. I think a new one from summit is around 100 bucks. You may want the 260 hp crate engine instead, it has 350 ft lbs of torque, when the 290 only has 326 ft lbs. Just a thought.

Re: Hello from Alaska

I just got the basic crate motor, $1300 one, ofor mine. I have an eldelbrock 1405 (600CFM), long tube headers (Dynomax I think), eldelbrock performer manifold, and using a mid 80's stock HEI. I think my engine is the 260hp rating. I just got to get it from the crate into the truck now. From what I have heard they are pretty good. My budget didn't permit more HP yet.

Considering I started with a straight 6, then went to a decent running 305 4bbl, this 350 will probably seem like a powerhouse extraordinare.
