Okay.....I'm knee deep into a yard improvement project....loading and hauling dirt away with my 72 Blazer to my property......then it happens.....that sickly sweet taste on your lips.....yeah, you know the one.......antifreeze. So as I'm looking at the green river dump into my passenger floor.....I'm thinking...wow....thats gonna suck to replace.
So.....I get it all apart.....except for that one nut.....yep...the one on the bottom.....un-reachable for clowns like me that cant keep their tools organized....or locked up in the pump house at the other property....doh!!!!
I tried everything......and I need to get the vehicle going tomm.......this is where it gets ugly.....I did have access to my grinder.......muh-huh-huh!!!!!!
Yes, I cut a hole in my wheel well.....to gain access to that last dang nut.......now keep in mind my passenger wheel well is toast up front...so I knew this wouldnt be fatal...and I have a welder...so I can close it up.
So....I have to ask........am I the only knucklehead that has done this?
I feel silly for doing it......but it worked like a champ!!! So....In leu of a hug....I have a Corona.......have a good night people!!!!

You know...I never thought about putting an access panel in there. I have toasted inner fenders too and several old inner fenders to act as patch panels. I am going to put an access panel in mine!!!!! Did I mention that I have my new heater core mounted to the inner fender temporarily...fat lot of good it does there....LOL!

I was thinking about an access panel too......not that it would get used that much.....but with the Air Con.....that box is just too big to get under it....well...it was tonight anyway!! lol
Now.....I have to ask......hows that heater working out fer ya? : )

The only way to reach that nasty nut is to drop the inner fender anyway, so you did the next best thing.

If that inner is toast already, it's fair game for 'get-r-done'

You can cut a small hole, and use a plug to cover it in the 10 year streaches where the core isn't being used.

I was just fixing to post a "How Do You Get to the Dang Nut' thread...and here it is. Doing mine today. Just broke the old box off (it was busted up) and trying to put it back right.

I suspect the General would be proud. '70 Pontiac Catalinas had an embossed ring on the right front wheel well. The ring was to be cut out if it was necessary to replace the blower motor, then welded or screwed back in, using seam sealer as necessary. Worked like a charm on mine.

I had a similar problem on a different vehicle. I cut a hole with a hole saw and put in a rubber plug that I got from napa. I just went in and ask for a grommet that would plug a hole. I brought the hole saw with me. I liked the rubber because I knew that If I needed back in there it would be very little work.

My 67 got modified.I slotted out that bolt ring and threadlocked the screw so that just enough of it was out that the cover could slip over that screw.You can't even tell it was done unless you take it apart.

Weren't you having some front end vibration problems that I talked to you about?

Oh yeah....still am. The right front tire is tipped out from the top.....the opposite of what it would look like with a worn ball joint or a bent hub.....it's weird.....but I am almost ready to swap to my 3/4 ton set-up as soon as my rear disc brake kit shows up.
I've swapped in new ball joints for giggles and it's still the same. As soon as my wife gets back in town with our digital camera...i'll send you a pic of it.
