Carb and distributor?
Hey guys, I want to get rid of the quadrajet on my truck and go with a holley carb. Which model is good? I am going to put the 290 hp gm crate engine in it, the truck is manual transmission. Also I would like to upgrade to HEI which conversion kit is the one to go with. I have heard a lot on the One Wire Distributor? Where can I get one decently priced. Oo Sorry it is a 71 3/4 ton 350 4 speed 4x4. Never really worked on carbs before just fuel injected datsuns so any pushing in the right distributor choice and place to get the stuff would help. By the way sorry for saying zcars on a chevy sight

Re: Carb and distributor?
Unless you are running HEI now, you may want to look at an Accel 71100E if you want vacuum advance -- yes you can spend more money and buy better. I run an Edelbrock also because I am not a Holley tuner.

Re: Carb and distributor?
I have a 350 crate with the performer #2101 intake and edelbrock1406 carb. Runs great and you would not believe the performance difference. on the HEI I bought the cheapy $100 from AutoZone and it actually got the job done.

Any particular reason you want to ditch the Q-jet?

Re: Carb and distributor?
Junkyard HEI should be fine for that engine. New cap, rotor and wires and you should be good to go. You can get better performance, but it costs a LOT more.

Re: Carb and distributor?
I would go with a stock HEI dizzy with a good cap, coil, rotor. I would run a 570 Holley Strret Avenger if you want a Holley. A 600 Edelbrock should be OK too. You will like the Street Avenger much better though.
