need help sealing valve covers...

i've got vortec heads and i'm using those adapters out of the summit catalog to run older style perimeter bolt valve covers. i think they are by trick flow... is anybody else running these? i cant seem to get them to seal. i have a steady but slow oil leak... thanks for any input

Re: need help sealing valve covers...

I use Felpro double cork gaskets. The ones with a piece of steel wedged inbetween the cork. They are thicker and seam to keep the leaks away. Just don't squeese them too hard. Like any vavle cover gasket..if you over tighten the gasket will deform and leak.

I do not have the same setup, this was just a random thought on what you could do...

try a cast aluminum valve cover, or atleast some spreaders.

Re: need help sealing valve covers...

thanks for the input guys... i think i overtightened the stamped steel valve covers and bent them... i've lined up some cast aluminum ones. i'll let you all know how that goes.

Crispy,

Those old style valve covers are notorious for leaking -- especially the thin after market ones. One of the reasons they made that change was to improve on that issue.

For my vortec heads I bought a beautiful set of ribbed cast aluminum covers that have center-bolt mounting! I don't even have to use adapters.
