I ordered a remanufactured stock steering wheel from the Truck Shop, for a 69 C10. Unfortunately I let it sit in the shop past the return window before being installed. The wheel is extremely flimsy. Very little pressure is required to make the top or bottom of the wheel flex in or out. This one is destined to be one of those wall hangers in the shop. I plan on passing this same information on to the Truck Shop and advivising them that I will no longer be ordering parts from them.

That sucks. Thanks for the info. I'd try calling them about a return even if it's past the date. They might make it right.

So,it`s a reproduction,not remanufactured?I have one in my GMC and never noticed anything wrong.I`ll have to pay more attention next time I drive it,it`s been since fall.

i've had 2 repo wheels 1from wes 1 from LMC never had a problem with either wheel tho the one from wes i think was a better repop with better detail

I have a stock one. I just yanked my '68 3spd non-tilt column from wheel down to the rag joint that connects to the gearbox. Going aftermarket column and aftermarket wheel. In all seriousness, are stock wheels and columns like this worth much? What's a going price? All blinkers and the 3spd shifty handle are in great shape.

I had wanted a stock wheel to go back in my K10. When they first started reproduceing them you could see cracks in the back of the wheel before it was ever mounted. The ones I have seen at shows recently seem to be better but I am still scared of them.

Have any of you re-done a your wheel yourself?

I've seen kits, and even an article in Super Chevy some 10 yrs ago. I'm curious about how easy it is and how the product weathers.

There is someone that sells a kit to restore your stock wheel but I can't remember who right now maybe someone else can

I purchased a kit about 5 years ago from Eastwood, but never used it. I bought a reproduction wheel instead, but have not installed it yet. The kit is made by PC Products, Allentown PA. Part # PC-7, comes in 2 small 12 oz. cans. I paid $12.99 for the kit.

I also noticed the 69-72 repro wheels (2 spoke) are more flexible on the top and bottom of the ring...BUT, we cannot find good useable colored wheels. Only the black seems to last and not in the sunny states.
So, we are running the repros because they look so good in a nice restored truck and they actually work just fine, as soon as you get used to them. Just don't worry about it.
The epoxy-type repair kits are too much hassle, grind, sand, prime, paint and then crack out again. Repros aren't perfect, but sure a lot simpler.

I`ve heard the crack resto doesn`t hold up.I`d only do that where a repro is not an option.Besides,would be much good on most blue wheels I`ve seen and pthers where you can poke your finger through the cross-spokes.

Pickmup-That wheel looks really nice. Is that off color or is the horn button? I need one for my blue truck and was thinking about getting it from LMC.

i just purchased a green one myself. horn button and wheel came from two different suppliers, but match perfectly. also, i haven't noticed any more "flex" in the wheel. according to Kenny with kenny's trucks (met him and purchased several parts, incl. horn button at the Decatur swap meet this weekend) the repop wheels are made by one company that he knows of, but horn buttons are made by several differen companies. i haven't verified, but i trust it to be true until i find out otherwise.

also, i just redid my factory bench, including replacing the foam, and my cab suddenly feels much smaller, between the 17" wheel (was running a 13") and the rebuilt seat. i'm feeling gigantic...

Reminds me of a kid who looked like he sat on phone books in his 69' chevy.

I bought a blue one from LMC when they first came available.It`s fine,looks great!The hard thing was finding a blue GMC horn button.

I expressed my disatifaction with the steering wheel in an email to the Truck Shop, before this original post. The Truck Shop called me, said no problem with the time span thing, said to box it up and they would have the brown truck pick it up, which they did as promised. Back to the search for a steering wheel.
