Dash pad

How easy is changing the dash pad on a truck? As part of my interior refurb I am considering a new dash pad as mine is somewhat worn and I'm wondering how easy/hard to change they are with the windshield in place? A previous owner covered the top of the dash in black vinyl which is now lifting so I may rip it all off and replace it with some to match my reupholstered door panels as I've got a load of red vynil left over. What would I have to remove to change it over?

The dash pad only covers the edge of the dash facing you when your looking at it. It doesn't go all the way to the windshield. There is no reason to remove the windshield, but you will need to remove the instument cluster and glove box. If you have AC, you may need to pull the center vent. There are screws that are visable when you look directly at the dash pad and there is a series of nuts attached to bolts built into the dash pad. These nuts are the reason you need to remove the cluster and glove box.

If you have a cover that goes all the way to the windshield, it is probably something installed by a previous owner.

They make a dash cap that I have used several times and really like. It takes 10 minutes at most to install with the supplied adhesive and it looks great. LMC sells them for about $50.

Can you use that cap in place of an actual pad? Will it cover up the slots? I've never seen a picture of the dash cap - only the full out pad.

It attaches to the original with the supplied silicone. The old one supports it. Here is a before and after shot.

Thanks guys. The vinyl was put on the top of the dash by a previous owner, it's lifting around the edges. What I do with it depends on what it's like underneath. I really don't want to have to remove the glass to repaint it so if the paint is bad underneath it's gonna get upholstered again. No AC and the stereo head unit is coming out at the same time as I have a sub and amps to go in under the seat and I need to sort the wiring out for them. I also intend to add some concealed lighting in the footwells under the dash somewhere attached to some door switches as there is no illumination other than the dome light and thats not currently attached to any door switches. I want a nice fade in/out action for them.

From what I've heard, the caps are hard and stick on with double stick tape. They "snap" on over the top of the old dash pad.

LMC sells courtesy lights and a fade kit.

I can source courtesy lights and a fade kit over here in the UK, no point in shelling out for shipping them across the atlantic and then paying another lot of tax on them! Thanks for the help guys, I think a new pad will make a big difference to the look of the cab as mine is somewhat battle scarred.
