Good donors for Bench Seat?

What trucks have bench seats that are a direct bolt in for 67's?

And which ones are good donors that need little to make work (i.e. seats/frames are already a good hieght, minimal fabrication)?

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

Honestly, you can have the original seats made as or more comfortable than others with some custom work.IMO opinion that`s way cooler than swapping.

I'd like that. But at some point someone pulled the bench and put in Bucket seats (from a Honda, I think). They are very comfortable and supportive.

But I can't put the childseat between me and my old lady. Back in my rugrat days, I'd probably just sit on Mom's lap. But those days are over. Then again, back then I don't think anyone had buckets seats in a truck.

I'm trying not to spend a bunch of money or time on the truck just yet. So I'm looking for what can be done cheap and easy.

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

I have a seat that you can have cheap. It was in a 1971 GMC but looks like it came out of another truck, the seat looks to have been redone but someone modified the legs on it. 40.00 and take it away.

That's a good deal. I pulled out a newer ford seat "91-96" from a wrecked 67 I believe and it looked like it bolted in the original holes.

Legs modified to fit our trucks? So it will now bolt in? Or it's hacked and I'll have some fixin and fabbin to do? 40 bones sounds pretty good. I just might have to take you up on that.

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

I also believe some bucket seats are really comfortable but stand out like a terd in a punch bowl if they are just bolted in and old truck. When the head rests are taken out, recovered in a matching fabric and color it's much more tasteful. I'm thinking of redoing some original seats too. I think some added fabric from a good upholseter will go a long way.

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

It needs some fixing on the leg posts, I bought the truck to use for the cab and the seat was in it. They got it redone they said but never got it modified to fit the truck. Here are some pictures of the brackets. The seat is a little bit dirty from sitting in the back of the truck.

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

Thanks. Let me simmer on that. I won't ask you to hold it for me.

But if I take you up on that, do you think you'll be going to the Good Guys swap meet on the 25th? Vacaville is a bit of a drive. I live on the Mid-Peninsula.

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

i actually just reupholstered my original bench. the one that was in it was from a '96ish ford. it's been in there since '96, and i had forgotten just how big the original was. the ford seat didn't bolt right in. i had to weld a couple of flat plates to the legs to get the holes to line up. imo this is a great seat for our trucks, esp. the earlier ones with squared-off headrests (mine are the taller, rounded ones.) the seat was very comfy and sat a little lower. the back was thinner by a few inches, so it also provided more legroom. for what i spent to redo my old one, i prolly should have just had that one upholstered in factory-matching fabric. plus, the integrated removable cup holder...

you can see the kind i'm talking about below. might have looked great reupholstered...
maybe i still will...someday.

Yeah, the seat I pulled out looked like that but's plain vinyl. Its's still in good shape with no tears. yours was from a upper scale trimed truck than mine.

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

I just put a 40/60 split bench from a mid 90's chevy pickup in my 72, the front outer holes lined up perfectly, then had to drill 6 mounting holes for the rest of the seat bolts, bolted them down with fender washers underneath the cab, the only fab work will be the inner front mount for the passenger side, it is too high to use washers as spacers, needs about a 1 inch thick spacer I am going to use a picee of square tubing and bolt that to the cab and then to the seat, I probably have two or three hours total in installing this seat

one other thing is I had to put six flat washers under the rear seat tracks as spacers

really easy to do and sits a bit higher than the factory seat and more comfortable to drive, I am 6 foot and always felt cramped with the factory bench seat

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

About any bench seat will "fit" into your truck.I guess you already have holes drilled for the buckets,so hole drilling isn`t really an issueat this point.Like rauto13 did gets done alot.Plenty of late-model seats in good condition floatin`around,in the right color.

'course stretching the rear of the cab a few inches doesn't hurt either, eh?

Re: Good donors for Bench Seat?

Careful with that mod. I have been asking about it and if it is not wired right the seatbelts will not stop in a collision. Try and grav the belt and jerk it to see if it stops. Let me know how it works. Also did that just bolt right in?

This sucks! You offer up a bench seat with no rips for 40 bones and I notice today that the shifter sits further back than the fronts of the bucket seats. The tape below is measuring from the tank.

It probably won't clear the bench seat. Can you pull a tape and measure the base depth? Just in case.

I will be up that way on Saturday to help 'John Fabris' cut up a cab and snake some pieces that I need.

The depth on the seat is about 22 inches.
