hinge pin replacement

i think these sob's growed fast. tried pressing them, crushed the bolt i was using for a pin. tried pounding them, mushroomed my punch. they have been soaking for two days since my last atempt i've heated and beat ground the heads off and pounded them the other way and they just don't wana budge. i guess next i'll have to take the saws all and cut them appart and fight them half at a time any other ideas short of getting new hindges? i just wanna put the doors on temperaraly to finish body work on cab and linne everything up prior to painting

That's what I had to do on one of the hinges. Used a saws all, then did more beating. I'm glad the others came out easy.....

I had to use a 5 ton press (manual) at work to get my pins out.

I did mine a week ago, took about 3 hours to do them all. I had to clamp them in a vice, torch them, spray with PB Blast and beat the crap out of them. I could have used a bigger hammer than the claw hammer I had.

After soaking in penetrating oil for days, I tried a hydraulic press too. No go.

I got the pins out of all but one by placing the pin head upside down inbetween open vice jaws with the hinge splayed across the jaws. I then hit the bottom, tapered protrusion with a 5lb sledge. Didn't have to swing hard– let the weight do the work. And the vice had 4 or 5 inch jaws.

Once the sledge pounded the pin's tapered end flush with the bottom of the hinge, I switched to a tapered punch to send the end a ways beyond the hinge. The tapered punch wouldn't slip off since it digs into a point. I then could switch to a flat-tipped punch and have the hinge loops provide a boundary for the punch for worry free hammering. Sent 'er thru then using a smaller hammer.

I just did mine on my CST this weekend. One pin just drove right out with minimal effort. The other 3 sucked. I ended up cutting them in pieces with a thin cutoff wheel. Then I was able to drive them out with a punch. One short piece was so stuck that I drilled it out. It is a nasty job but well worth it....like having a new truck...almost.
