Weird chirping noise. What is it?

When I drive my 86, I occasionally have a wierd pulsating, chirping sound coming from the dash. It speeds up as the truck speeds up and slows down as the truck does. My first thought was the speedo or cable. The speedo doesn't jump or bobble at any speed. Would the speedo cable just be dry on the inside or what?

sounds like speedo., but I don't know whether it would be the cable or the actual speed display gauge. Mine sounds like a scratching noise when it is cold outside. I am kind of watching to see what others say about it.

Pull the cable out and lube it. Just takes a little time and effort. Could also be that the speedometer cable tube is worn out from rubbing and the cable not lubed.

It doesn't make any noise when it's cold. It seems to be after it warms up a little. i'll try to checkit out this week.

Re: Weird chirping noise. What is it?

I have the same problem. I assume it is a dry cable, but I have not tried to fix it yet. The sound is only annoying, and I am usually too busy fixing stuff that is actually broken to work on things that are only annoying.
