1978 chev fuel gage

my 1978 pickup fuel gage has quit working after i pulled and over hualed the engine
it always goes past full about 1/4 I have tested the gage connections and it reads 12volts on the left stud facing the gage. thanks.

both of my trucks have done that, i think i have heard its a ground at the tank problem... my 82 now reads full at 3/8ths of a tank.. and E is still empty.. havent bothered with it yet.. 87 reads full 1/4 past F...
