Re: the new 502 or the always nice 454
First Welcome to the board, Second questions like this should probally be directed into the proper forum where a lot of guys there can give you some better hints on ways to go or what exactly your after. Third, I guess if I had a choice or the two I would go for the 502, but being I like to conserve a little bit of fuel I'll stay with my small block..

That looks like a great project, as always... more cubic inches... more better.

Re: the new 502 or the always nice 454
If your gonna go big, go as big as you can. The 502 is a very nice motor. You may as well go for it and get a RamJet 502.
Yes, low is the way to go...

Re: the new 502 or the always nice 454
Im curious where you're going to get the money to buy a 502 BBC to drop in your 250I6 truck at 16.
Im 18... and I've spent the better part of two years piecing together my motor- doing absolutely all the work myself. Edit: Sorry if that came off as harsh. But on the other boards I frequent, posts from 16 year olds asking "Should I get NOSSS or a huge BLOWER on my car?" get old quickly. I realize that wasnt what you were saying, but its similar.

Re: the new 502 or the always nice 454
Welcome from Clayton, NC. I am glad to see you are thinking about a big block. Small blocks are awsome too, but I can't help myself, "I like them there big blocks" It all hinges on what you are trying to accomplish; for me, I would go for the 502 because it is easier to build power with cubic inch. However, I would explore my options by looking at a Bill Mictchell 509 crate motor (a better built chevy engine with much more power). If I am not mistaken, a 502 requires an electric fuel pump, but the 509 from Bill Mitchell accepts a mechanical one. And dollar wise the 509 is very close to the same as GM 502 crate engine. Good luck!

Re: the new 502 or the always nice 454
Welcome from PA. I went from 402BBC to a HT502BBC. fuel mileage about the same 10MPG. This engine was for my 1ton for towing and hauling. A crate HT502(328hp/516lbfttq) was about $5500 and hard to find. A HO502(450hp/516lbfttq) was about $6600 and a RamJet 502(502hp/510lbfttq) was $9800. to the HT add electric fuel pump/water pump/high tq starter. to the HO add Fuel injection off a late '80-early '90's 454(comes with a intank fuel pump). Ramjet needs a fuel pump.
If its your C10 then the BBC will lower it for you. The HO454(450hp) crate is about $5500. Then you will need the engine mounts accs brackets and such. It is easiest to get a serpentine setup(junk yard $100 and up or factory $780) as everything would be there. Not sure on a rebuilt 454 cost as location would drive the price. Good luck I dreamt for 4 year before I took the plunge. Also what tranny do you have now as the 502's come with a 14" flexplate and a 3 on the tree will not stand up to well to a BBC.
