68 Gmc V6 ???

I looked at this truck 9 months ago
67 I think but might be a 68 GMC lwb 1/2 V6, AT, AC, PS, PB, speed warning, buddy buckets, its been repainted long ago and paint is coming off now, some rust. How many 1/2 V6's are out there? If I get it bought I'd hate to part it out, but I've heard some V6 parts are hard to find, like the AT stuff, and AC stuff, and it does have some other good options. I've got the V6 website, but I haven't really ever been on it. I know need pics but I haven't had time to get over there again and look at it. I just wonder if its worth more complete or parted. Thanks for any help, Randy

Re: 68 Gmc V6 ???

As far as the engine is concerned, if it's a 305, parts are not too much trouble. Some parts for the 351 are tough to find, like pistons and carburetors. A '67 will have either a Pow-R-Flo (Powerglide) or Turbo 400 automatic. These are exactly the same as used on a Chevy pickup, they just used an adapter to mate the Chevy bolt pattern transmission to the GMC block. The V-6 A/C compressor mounting brackets are hard to find, but the compressor is the same as other Chevy pickups.

Parts seem to be hard to find,I'm still looking for the correct clutch plate for this 67 I have outside the shop here.Sure don't see may of them around here.I haven't really looked, but a clutch disc is nearly impossible.

My old SWB GMC originally had the 305 in it... but it was gone when I got it.

Re: 68 Gmc V6 ???

I just purchased a 69 GMC K1500. It has a tach dash which I hope is going to be valuable.

Randy,At least try to sell complete first. That`s a pretty rare and unusual truck there.I`d think it could bring decent money "as is" to the right crowd, like Hemmings or the V6 clubs.

Re: 68 Gmc V6 ???

Thanks guys, I'm going Monday to try to work a deal with him, I think he's wanting $3500 for it alone, it would be nice to restore, it doesn't have the glove box sticker unfortunately. There are pics on a thread of mine in this section "Looked at some other ones tonight". Thanks Randy
