Re: Check out this truck with Deisel Engine

I was looking at that one (I am not interested in buying it, though!). The engine appears to be a Detroit 3-53 3 cylinder 2 stroke. Real good for converting diesel fuel into noise. Interestingly enough, the 3-53 was a regular option in P-2500 and P-3500 Step-Van chassis from '67 to '69.

Re: Check out this truck with Deisel Engine

If it ran I don't think it ran long as there is no fan for the rad. Although the truck itself doesn't look in to bad a shape.

Re: Check out this truck with Deisel Engine

All I got to say is that is a big 4 banger. It sures fills that engine bay. Decent looking truck. It would be a worker if it ran Iguess.

It has a factory-like auxilary tank. Were rhey available from factory in`67?I think not, could be wrong. That`s the second`67 GMC Custom I`ve seen w/small window in the last two days. So,I guess the "Panoramic" didn`t come standard on them(which is what I always thought).

I don't think it's a 4. It's a triple.

Re: Check out this truck with Deisel Engine

If I was closer that SOB would be mine!!!!! I am going to put a 4-53 Detroit in a truck someday..............With 92 series injectors to wake them up, they'll run like a raped ape! About the only bad things about a two stoke Detroit is the noise and oil leaks. But they are long running engines and will take abuse like no other.

That looks like it would be a nightmare to start in cold weather. Can you say pop the hood and spray the ether...

Hopefully you plug it in before you have to resort to blowing the head off of it

The Cummins in my '71 C-20 is a hard starter when not plugged in, nature of the beast though. Atleast I can Idle my Cummins for a long time unlike the Detroit which shouldn't be idled any more than necessary.

It has the same rear step bumper my 72 gmc has. It fits like it was custom built for it.

I had to get my dads Ford F-250 diesel going with ether quite a bit.............when it was about 70 degrees out!

So far only 105 dollars. Detriot is worth 4 or 5 times that, at least!

That is what happens when you run a "Powerjoke", or even worse, a Pre-Powerjoke 7.3 or 6.9 Don't get me wrong, International built some great engines over the years, but IMO they have to be amoung the worst ever shipped out the door. Who ever heard of carrying cam position sensors and glow plug relays in the glove box in case they fail on the road..........

Can't believe it sold for 180 bucks. That 3-53 is worth 2 or 3 times that un-rebuilt!

Wise move my Friend......... I put a 6AT3.4 Cummins(Small 6 cylinder) in my '71 C-20 and even though it is only 210 cubes, it will blow the doors off the '72 K-20 I just bought with a 454 Big Block. Of-course I tweaked the pump some You just can't beat looking in the mirror and seeing nothing but black.
