D44 Axle seals HELP! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I started to put my front axle back together when I realized that I was missing the seal between the housing and the axle itself (a PO didn't bother to put them in last time they tore it down!). According to the books at NAPA, the seal should be #13165 but it doesn't fit. I tried a national #5131 at CarQuest and it is the exact same seal NAPA has (even stamped with 13165) Does anyone know what Part Number I need to be looking for? I'm getting desparate - suns out and I want to drive the beast again!

Try a National #442380
This is the inner seal, right? Not the outer hub seal.

You understand that the seals are installed at the inboard ends of the axle tubes, right? They are installed from inside the housing, and you have to remove the carrier to get them in.

The '69 should be the closed knuckle design: is that still true?

Thanks guys, I didn't realize that the seals are installed on the inboard side of the axle tubes. I guess that's why it wasn't fitting and why there were none when I tore it down!

JUST BECAUSE I LOOK DUMB, DOESN'T MEAN I'M NOT!

I assume your truck has a later open knuckle axle swapped in?
