Re: cleaning frame

Presoak with detergent & water mix for a few days before starting.
Power washer.

Hammer & chisel if the power washer won't cut it.

If all else fails, two sticks of dynamite, one under the front of the cab, one under the center of the bed. This will leave the hard mud laying in the drive, probably in 2 or 3 pieces. But the truck and frame will be blown clean (clean into the next county)

Re: cleaning frame

I used about 10 cans of degreaser and a high-power powerwasher. Then I used a chisel for the parts that were REALLY tough.

Look on the bright side -- all that grease usually keeps the rust off of the frame!

Re: cleaning frame

I always use Gunk Engine Brite at the local car wash on the way home. Then I use a twisted wire cup brush on a 4 inch grinder. It will be clean shiny bare metal in short order.

Get this type, the knotted wire one.

Not this type, they wear out much too fast.

You can get one at any Lowes or Home Depot for just about 15 bucks. I typically get at least 6 months of hard use out of one.
