Drug it Out

Literally.

Drug out the truck, so I could take it up to a friends to pressure and steam wash all the leaky oil and crude off the frame. She towed pretty good engineless, but I sure would not want to do it for very long. It doesn't like to turn as well. The replacement springs and new shocks got it back up to a nice ride height (for me anyways). Got it up to EdB's and proceeded to clean her up. I didn't get a chance to steam it, but the pressure washer sure helped a bunch. It got a bit dusty on the drive home, but it is a whole bunch better than before.

Re: Drug it Out

yeah, the clean up is the nastiest part of it I think. Pressure washers do save an awful lot of elbow work. I think everybody should have one, unfortunately I don't.

Re: Drug it Out

While I was up at Ed's today I started seeing a whole lot more wrong with the cab from the 69. I originally was going to drive this while I finished up the other cab, but this cab is BAD. Holes everywhere, covered by carpet and silicone oozz. So when I got it home from cleaning I just started taking things apart to make the cab lighter. Soon as I get it stripped down, I'm yanking it off and getting it the heck out of my way. I'll get the frame cleaned, get the new motor and tranny in, then 70's cab will go on it. So driving will be a bit down the road I guess. Here is where I got before my son got sick and I had to stop for the day.

Nah Ed wasn't there. It was just Krazy_Texan and I. We couldn't get the steamer to fire up and steam.

BTW Krue I don't see your truck on the BEAST list yet

Re: Drug it Out

Paulf, how did you keep your front wheels from turning when you towed the truck? Do both of your brake lines up to the master cylinder rouote inside the rail? I am trying to get my lines back right, did not take pics during the disassembly and not trying to hi-jack the thread.

I hope your son is ok, since we have twin 9 month olds it is nearly impossible to get anything done if somebody is a little sick.

I am not sure if this helped or not with the towing, but I looped the Power steering box High pressure line to the low pressure line so it would not spurt fluid everywhere. I think it kept the wheels where I had them. It made some turns awkward (heard the tires scruffing), but it tracked really wheel.

Brake lines run on the outside of the rail. Hopefully you can see from this shot.

Thsnks for the wishes on my son. Stomach viruses stink. They are not good with their aim for the toilet yet.

Re: Drug it Out

Okay, this is officially the last time I speak up when someone asks me if I know anyone with a truck for sale. Bill, I felt bad already because of the engine problem. Now this?

I used it as my errand truck and for all my little projects.

Re: Drug it Out

I just noticed the change in your signature! That makes me think. Now that you are using the 70 cab on the 69 frame and bed, which registration title and tag do you use on the "vehicle"? Do you use the one that is on the frame or the one that is on the cab? I guess the better question is what are you going to choose to do? Which one?

Re: Drug it Out

Using the 70. MS uses the cab tag. I'm probably going to keep both, since both are registered, but if there is ever a question of the frame# not matching, I'll have both titles....and well I still have another frame

Re: Drug it Out

In your case, I knew it shouldn't matter. I was was curious how that would work since I may be looking in the next few years. Thanks, Bill!
