Swap chaisis on a 64 Chevy Short wide - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi I have a 64 chevy 1/2 ton short & wide, It now sets on a 67 4X4 Chasis would like to put it on a newer chaisis , having a 5 speed and a newer Transfer case , It has a 350 engine and 4 speed Granny trans. old Rockwell Transfer case , newer disc brakes in front, would like to make a complete frame change? what is a good solution. Money is a issue any Ideas? Thanks Willey-68. Forgot to mention it has 308 gears in F & R. I have a 373 front could find a 373 rear.

Can't help you with what would work ............but I have been trying to find a 67 SWB 4X4 for a while. I am restoring my 67, the frame is wasted. Need really clean 67 SWB frame rails, I have all the crossmembers etc. Let me know if you want to sell it, I also have 3/4 and 1/2 axles.

You won`t find a frame that came with a 5spd made before`88 where the frames are way different.I`d move/make crossmembers before swapping frames.

What you want is the NV4500 5spd from an early`90s-`00 8-lug IFS 4wd truck and a NP241 transfer-case from a Blazer or Suburban from`91 back(not sure how far back).Those Blazers never had a 5spd,but had the NP241 with the right-side front driveshaft.The trucks with the NV4500 were IFS with NP241s with the left-side driveshaft.Everything is interchangeale.

Special K ; thanks again , the tranny and 5 speed trans ID will help a bunch in figuring out approx . what this will cost. Would have any Idea what a salvage yard price might be? willey

Well,the NV4500s are in demand and new in a crate they cost about $2500.The t-cases are around $800.So,use that as a reference.
