5/7 Drop

Is it posssible to achieve a 5/7 drop with rear shackle/lowering leaf pack & Drop spindle and coil. I was looking at the rear of my truck and thought there might possibly be some interference with the frame/body.

Re: 5/7 Drop

In most cases the radical drop of 7 inches will require the axle to be on top of the spring packs. This will require the adapters that whichever company you choose to go with, sells for the axle to set on the springs. The "C Notch" will also be required in the rear frame for the axle to fit up into and in a lot of cases a notch cut into the baed frame runner for the rear pumpkin to clear. This takes some time to do and then a careful approach to geting the rear axle aligned with the U-joints on the rear of the tranny. If your truck has a carrier bearing assmbly in the driveline, then there is some changes needed there also. Taking the bed off of the frame is a must for this work.

As for the front, the drop spindle and the front coils will be the easier part of this, but keep in mind that you will have to most undoubtedly change your front wheel offset to ensure that the lower A-Frames clear the rim. The ride will be rougher than what you know now and that is OK for some.

Spend some time on the phone with Bell-Tech, DJM, and any other company that makes lowering kits for knowledge and what is involved. A lot of companies offer their installation instructions on the web, so you can see what is involved. Especially Bell Tech--Try them.

Re: 5/7 Drop

You might get a bit more info also if you post it over in the suspension section. Already a lot of informative posts out there on the subject. I am going to definitely get a notch done in both my 96 Yukon and the 75 Jimmy. Both are basically sitting right on the bumpstops now lol. Izzy is a good person to talk to on drops. He did my bag setup on my 95 and had a 83 that was 5/8 dropped. Might look him up here or on fullsizechevy.com

Re: 5/7 Drop

Anything over 4" drop in the rear will require a notch of the frame.
