Lost on Serial # info

I am going to go get my '85 GMC p-u tonight and I just called my buddy I am buying it off of and got the serial #.

1 GT E C 1 4 H 9 F S 502***

1=US
GT= GMC
E=6001 - 7000 GVWR Hyd Brakes
C=81-86 2 Wheel Drive
1= 1/2 ton
4= 2 door
H=305
9=???????
F=1985
S= St Louis, MO

Don't know what the 9 is for. I thought this was an '87 since my buddy said it had a 305TBI. Someone before him must have put it on the truck. I will post some pics tomorrow.

Re: Lost on Serial # info

According to the parts guys in Chevrolet, the "Check Digit" is just an alignment item for a serial number, this has no bearing on what the vehicle is.

Re: Lost on Serial # info

What a deal, check digit.

Drove the truck home tonight. Drove real good. Pulled to the right a little more than it should, but nothing an alignment won't cure. Surprised to see that the cruise worked so well. It needs fronts brakes and rotors and some light bulbs replaced here and there. For now I am going to knock all the dents it has out, and put the grill I got from ebay in it. Just needs a little TLC that is all. One thing I did find out on the drive home, the factory AM/FM radio don't work. Gotta do something about that right a way. It has the quartz clock in the bottom left of the dash and to my surprise, it works. The wife followed me home and the speedo is dead on with the Suburban. Daylight comes I will post some pics.

Re: Lost on Serial # info

Here are some pictures of the '85. Nice deer hit damage on the front and drivers side.
