Anyone ever put a TPI motor in these trucks? Changed over from carb to TPI? What does it involve? I found a mid 80's camaro Z-28 in a junk yard and it has a complete TPI setup. Is this worth it?

For looks yes, but as far as gas mileage goes, no. Throttle response, yes!

I did it to mine an I think it's worth it. Mass Air Flow set up from a '87 Camaro and single belt serpentine set up from a '92 Camaro. I still can't get better than 14MPG with 700R4 and 3.08 gears. I've heard a lot of noise from people about how 3.08 gears with 700R4 would lug down the engine but it doesn't. Goes into OD at about 42 and at 70 is turning just under 2,000 RPM. Only down shifts up fairly steep grades. I hear of folks getting 18-20 in these trucks but I'll be dipped if I can....

red71cheyene has a Speed Density set up.

I put mine in in 1989 and LOVE it. This is my everyday driver. Can't ask for a better truck motor combo. I also have the 700-R4 in it to. I made my own cold air intake for it also, solid upper water hoses also. You can see the mods on my www page.

mocwon, have you tried running the truck in 3rd and checkin the MPG like that?

that will confirm that his gearing is too tall... just like everyone tells him.
If the MPG stays the same, or even goes up, then it is obviously overgeared. If it drops by a small percentage...say one or two MPG, then again, chances are it is overgeared.
If it drops by more than that...then I'm wrong and he is doing OK.

But I'm willing to bet that his MPG will stay the same in 3rd gear.

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
