How to get Ignition Switch out?

Decided to just change my ignition switch since the damn thing won't turn all of a sudden. Can't seem to get the thing out of the dash. Trying to get my truck running before my board cookout this weekend. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Yellow69,

Here is how I did mine last week:

I took the two screws for my heater controls out and moved the heater controls out of the way and that made it a lot easier for me to remove the iginition switch. The key cylinder can be removed by putting the key in, turning the ignition to ACC, inserting a small wire (paper clip works great) into the little hole to press the release button. I just press the paper clip in and keep turning towards the ACC postiton. It should just pop out. Then you can unthread the retaining ring.

Good luck.

Re: How to get Ignition Switch out?

I tried pushing a pin in that hole and the key still won't turn counter-clockwise.

Can you get it to go in the Ass. position ,if you can you may need a slightly larger piece of wire ,push it in while trying to turn left past Ass. .
Some of these can be a BEAR so some WD 40 may help or a BFH .

Re: How to get Ignition Switch out?

Slight hijack:

Everytime I read about someone struggling with removing an igniton switch, I decide to give mine another try.

After almost a year of trying, I finally saw a little bit of movement today. It still did not come out AND it made me bleed, but the switch actually moved a little!!!!!!!

Thanks for bringing it back to my attention, guys.
