Updated pictures in post below

Here's the specs.
350 c.i. bored out 040
Flat top pistons
MTC-1 Melling Cam (specs here)
Edelbrock Performer High Rise Intake model 7101
Edelbrock 1406 Carb
Comp Cam roller rockers
Camel Hump Heads (bought from 70rs/ss member)
All new valves on reworked heads

I'm sure I left something out but you get the idea. I have lots of chrome to be added, alternator, pulleys, oil pan, power steering pump & pulley, all brackets, dipsticks, flywheel cover etc...

I'm going with a 16" electric fan. I have a 3hp mini starter on it's way. I bought the POR-15 Gloss Black engine kit. I have a set of ceramic Dynomax headers.

Clean and shiny. I like clean and shiny. You'll be happy with that cam, it's not to radical and you can get more lift with 1.6 roller rockers if you want more lift later on. Are the heads 2.02s(intake valves)? It's a nice combo.

This is the 1.94/1.50 valve setup. I thnk she's going to do fine. I've been jokingly saying "Don't know how she'll run but she sure is gonna be perty"

I have the same carb and cam in my 283 I built up. I have to adjust the carb a little to really wake it up. I just put it on right out of the box and haven't adjusted anything yet. I have the normal edelbrock intake on mine though. Nice build up you have going on there.

Thanks everyone. I'm really anxious to get it mounted up and running.

70C10, I haven't used the paint yet. I'll be using it once I finish assembly which will probably be tomorrow. I'll PM you and let you know how it went.

I picked up the kit on Ebay for around $45. I'm sure if it's anything like their other products I'll love it!

69ride, I chose that carb for that exact reason. Bolt up and go. I don't want to spend a lot of time tuning.

NICE! Hey, I'm at about the same stage on my 283. This is my first rebuild. I was wondering about my roller tip rockers. They don't have any 'stops' so they don't exactly sit centered on the valve tips. I noticed this in your pics too. Is this ok? Will they align themselves once I start up?

No shop yet Bill. Soon though. They just announced at work allowing us 40 hour weeks with one exception, all work need be completed. So in other words, 60 - 70 hours.

jdhcth, I'm probably going to be adding guide plates. I just determined this last night/today. I'm going to talk to my machine shop guy and see what he has to say. He was the one that recommended the rollers but said nothing about guide plates, so I'm going to see what he has to say. If I need them, which I'm pretty sure I will, I'm going to haul complete engine down to have the work done or I'll have to replace my head gaskets.

What compression ratio will it be? Will that torque cam idle smooth or have a rump to it? All that chrome on a red engine would look nice.

Far as compression, I used a compression calculator and estimated it to be around 11:1. That's probably off a little but it should be pretty close.

I got the POR-15 on the engine this weekend. It really took the POR a while to dry. It was nice weather and I expected it to dry pretty quick but it didn't. I'll get some pics tonight. I am planning to put the first coat of gloss black tonight and I'll get some pics of that also.

What prep work is involved before painting and is one pint really enough to coat everything good?. Last question- did you brush it on?. Thanks

The block was dipped at the machine shop, so the block was clean. In the kit they send Marine Clean, Metal Prep, POR-15, Engine enamel, brushes, mask, and gloves. The instructions were very simple. I didn't do the Marine Clean step since the block was clean but I did the rest.

1. Sprayed down block with metal prep, set for 20 minutes, rinsed and dried.
2. Brushed coat of POR-15. 6 hours later still tacky, so I waited to next day for top coat.
3. Brushed on Gloss Black Enamel and paused to catch my breath when done.

As far as paint being enough, yes! I had 2/3 of the POR-15 and the engine enamel left over. I could probably do 2 or 3 more engines. Keep in mind my intake, oil pan, water pump, and valve covers were not painted.

As you saw above I did use a brush for all steps. I was a little worried about the finish but as you can see it turned out great.

Thanks!. I bet their silver paint would fill in the pores on my Edelbrock intake nicely to make it smooth.

Probably would. They also have a variety of other products like fillers that would do that too.
