What did y'all get done this weekend?

What did I get done? nothing on my 69. I washed my 97 a couple times (haha, I really try to keep that thing clean, whenever I get her dirty.) went and had some usual teenager fun , hung out with the friends and the girls, then.... tragically.... somebody ran into my truck, and caved my driver's door in fairly well below the trim line not even one week...cause of some moron who decided it would be funny to park really close pointing his car towards my truck, then when he got back in his car from BS'ing with me, couldn't find his a$$ from his face, and got the wrong gear...

So now I have a huge, and ugly, dent in my driver's door, and I'm sure I'm going to need a new door, paint, decals, trim, chrome trim strip and the bigger chrome strip... and needless to say, I get a sick feeling and want to cry or something whenever I think about it, or see it. It's by far the nicest truck I've owned ever, and it took 6 days for some retard to wreck it.

Anyways, ranting off, I've got to hit the autobody shop on Monday and see what I can have done. So with my bad story aside, I'm hoping you guys all had some GOOD luck, for damned sake. What did y'all get done?

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Took my '71 to a little car show. Afterwards, met another board member (HUGRCST) for him to pick up a grille assembly he took off my hands. Wish I would have had more time to swap stories with him, but them was tapping her foot when I got home as it was.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

This was a long weekend for me. Friday was the only day I really got any truck stuff in. I drove the 3 hours up to Jackson to pick up my newly rebuilt tranny from Gman69 and we did some junkyard roaming while I was there. Scored a set of electric fans for the 70. I picked up a few more parts for the engine/tranny assembly install on the way back home. Saturday was more road time, up to the Mother-in-laws for the day. Did some chores for her in exchange for some overly good southern cookin . Today our church had a special service and picnic. So I pretty much drove and ate all weekend. All in all, a pretty good weekend (insert satisfing belch).

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

I finished painting and detailing the firewall on the Suburban.
I also got the front crossmember installed and bolted in.
Got the engine mounts installed onto the frame.
Then, I spent the remainder of the time getting the engine dressed to drop in.

I have the Early Classic goodies on the way to finish up the suspension. They should be here Thursday or Friday.

I'll get the engine installed this week.
I also plan to bead blast and paint my wheels this week if possible.
I should be able to get the tires bought this week too.

Next weekend will be the big one for me. By the next week's progress check, I should have it on the ground, converted to 5 lug, with the engine and trans installed.

I've had it in the shop about 4 days now, working like a fiend to get it on the road quickly.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Made an access panel to cover the hole I made in my fire wall to clearance the HEI. Didnt feel like moving the engine forward getting a new drive shaft and moving the tranny crossmember forward. So the hole was cut the new panel works great plenty of clearance and easy access to the distributor. Anyhow work progresses hopefully with a little luck and money from the wife I will have the engine makin noise by the end of the week.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Put new front springs on the 69. Loomed some wiring and hung it up and out of the way. Thought about installing the oil filter adapter for the 283 but went quading with the wife and kids instead. Fast, Fun weekend.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Brought the welder home from work, so I had a welding marathon. I cut out some rust and welded in a 2" strip to the underside of my hood. All the way across from one hood bumper pad to the other. Also, I cut out the rotted cab inner roof section over the windshield and welded in a patch panel that I got a while back from one of the vendors. It fit perfect, I just wish I was better at the welding thing I got a lot of grinding to do. Also patched 2 rust holes in the firewall, one just over the fan motor and the other was in the same spot on the opposite side. My eyes are killing me cause I dont wear a helmet, just close them when I tack weld.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Been busy, pulled the front clip, created a how to for it (still needs input so it can go to the FAQ's), removed not 1 but 2 motors and trannys, cleaned out the garage, got rained on, Yup that's about it

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Cleaned the garage, fixed a leak in the tranny cooler lines, put sound deadener on the doors and inside the aluminum pieces on my door panels, pulled the hood, fenders, and left door off the 72 parts truck, took the window regulator out of the door, getting ready to change it out for the bad one in my 72 longbed, also took a few other misc pieces off the 72 parts truck

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Tried to remove a rusted out cross sill on the 72. Got off all the bolts, but will have to take it to a weld shop to have the spot welds cut and the new one welded on; Used oven cleaner to clean the gunk off the bottom of the bed. Stripped the parts off both doors and started looking for new doors. Planning to go to a swap meet next weekend. Maybe we'll find some there.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Worked 12 shifts all weekend and my son was at a rodeo( took 3rd in calf roping), so not much progress. I did get 1/2 his new seat belts in his truck plus the newly covered seat. I found out that I can't install the driverside shoulder/lap belt until we move the fuel tank, so reinstalled the old lap belt.

Slept a lot as we only got back from a holiday in South Africa on Friday (11 1/2 hour flight after a 8 hour drive), put some flowers on my mother-in-laws and my daughters graves as it was mothers day here in the UK, went for a walk and visited a new chinese restaurant that opened around the corner from my house.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Did my version of some clean up in the shop - I threw a few sweeping glances around the shop and over the project then turned off the lights.... dang!
I also had to clean up a spot where the rearend fluid ran out the front of the pumpkin onto the floor (It's out and I almost had it clean enough for primer) Guess I could throw in "found a bad seal" to the list of accomplishments...
Did get to take some "4 generations" pictures (little one, mama, her momma and HER mama) - that was cool.....

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Went to three junkyards, only ONE had anything older than an '03 truckwise, and then because of insurance I could only look in the yard, no pulling parts off yourself I was lucky enough to find an 88-98 fleetside bed that had been smacked in the back driverside corner and they will cut the fuel filler door assembly out for me. I will also be getting the driverside seat brackets out of the same truck. Of course they were about to close, so I won't be able to pick my stuff up till next week This yard did have a 69 or 70 chevy longbed stepside, a 68 long fleet, and a 68 long fleet gmc. No usuable body or interior parts. They were picked clean.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

I finally put the backing plates & rear brakes on the revised (shortened) housing, Pulled thje motor & trans back out to finishup some added gussets to the front end of the new frame, Weld up and install a triangulated track bar & then pulled the whole rear suispension out, finished remaining cross braces on frame. Made up some brake line tabs for front brake lines & the rear brake line hose from frame to rear differential, also made up rear e-brake cable tabs & welded those in. pulled the Fatman front suspension off the new frame and put 2 coats of Eastwoods Rust Encapsultor on, got the rear suspension all mounted back up in the frame. Filled and smoothed out some holes that where in the front cowl area.

This weeks project is to get front suspension back in, Fuel Tank in, Brake & fuel lines run, cab on, motor & trans all back in after doing pan gasket on motor and tranny service. Install bed and finishup on custom oak bed, hopefully my rear roll pan will be in so I can get the rear wiring all done up.

I started this Jan 1st, I didnt think doing the frame was going to be that big of a deal, I also figured I would have a vast majority of what I wanted done by April 1st and am on track. Hopefully by April 15th it will be rolling on its own power.

Re: What did y'all get done this weekend?

Completed assembly on 350 and started painting using the POR-15 engine kit. Man it sure took that POR-15 a long time to dry. Now that it's dry I can put the gloss black enamel finish on it. While the paint was drying I did alot of clean up in the yard. I still had a lot of debris that I hadn't cleaned up from Katrina. Almost done though.

Link to thread on engine build.
